Default Improving GoPro Underwater Focus - One Solution

Just spoke to the developer at Eye Of Mine about their new product for improving image sharpness in the GoPro underwater. The problem comes down to basic optics and physics involving refraction in different media and impacts on the focal point within the GoPro camera. The GoPro housing port and lens were developed for use in air despite appearances. Adding the initial refraction of water prior to passing through the domeport, air and lens of the camera you need additional correction. Or, as Eye Of Mine figured out, just add an air layer outside the domeport of the underwater housing. The product in large measure consists of a "optically clear" acrylic flat lens secured in place by an air-filled pouch housing. Would have thought a flat port would have introduced other image problems but looking at their video, apparently not all that much.

You can see a side by side comparison of uncorrected vs. corrected optics underwater in a video at their website, more product details and ordering information at: http://www.eyeofmine.com/gopro/underwater/index.html

They are anticipating releasing their product on or about May 1, 2010.
