Default Meeting of the Broward Maritime Museum

The guys are getting organized with the intent of installing the Maritime Museum of Broward County at a permanent location in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. There is a meeting this coming Thursday night in that regard. It has existed as a traveling exhibit prior to this time.

Some of the highlights will include:

- I will present a newly prepared video and speak about our underwater expedition to Haiti in search of Christopher Columbus' ship the Santa Maria.

That is Bill Raymond in the center, Greg McIntosh to the left and Sonny Cockerell to the right. They are running the hydraulic core drill in search of signs of the wreck entombed in the barrier reef miles off the coast of Cap-Haïtien, Haiti.

- A Rebikoff Pegaus diver propulsion vehicle (DPV) will be donated to the museum and an historical overview of this remarkable device will be provided.
It is configured not unlike an underwater airplane, with joystick for aileron control, rudder, some versions even had an artificial horizon in the instrument pod.

- a treasure hunter will share memories of finding Mel Fisher's famous wreck of the treasure galleon Nuestra Señora de Atocha off the Marquesas in the lower Florida Keys.

Fishers salvage vessel, the JB Magruder at work off the Marquesas.

- An overview will be presented of the 1835 wreck of the Gil Blas off Hillsboro Mile Beach and its pivotal significance in Florida History.

A diorama of the wreck of the Gil Blas and salvage efforts.
