One other point that helped me in marginal/underpowered conditions was to sine the kite and sheet in on the downstroke edging the board as much as you can without dropping speed and coming off a plane. Then on the upstroke sheet out and bear off down wind to keep planing. Sheeting out on the upstroke keeps the kite speed up to maintain power. You may expend a lot of effort but it is a great workout and can keep you planing in marginal conditions.
