5/30/2013 Lagunitas St. Francis Kite Race Report

The day started out looking like it might not be very windy but then about 4pm the wind kicked in pretty good but showed signs that it could drop off suddenly like it had the day before.
Most riders were on 9-11m kites and the Race course was F! which is different from most of the recent Thursday night races. It was a practice run for the upcoming North American Championship June 3-7th.





Race 1 went off well with the visiting Riccardo Leccese from Colombia taking 1st place followed by John Heineken in 2nd and Adam Koch in 3rd place.



Since the finish line was right off of Crissy field rather than down by the St Francis Yacht Club it made it easy for riders to come in and swap out kites as the wind began to drop a little.

Race 2 got off to a great start as the flood subsided and the ebb started on the inside. Several sailors including John Heineken were caught in a bubble of light air just above the starting line which set them back quite a bit. John ended up about 1/3 of the way back in the pack on the way up to the weather mark because of this setback but managed to pull off a bullet finish for the 2nd race.



Riccardo Leccese was close behind him for 2nd place and then local sailor Joey Pasquali finished 3rd.


Erika Heineken went screaming across the finish line with a very good 7th place finish just ahead of Adam Koch. Nice job!!
