The wind in Ft. Lauderdale is about the same as in Miami. Wind, if it comes in October may well come with cold fronts or tropical systems. Neither are that easy to predict this far in advance. I would look to
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/mfl/ a day or so before your session to get an estimate of what might come about. Watch out for squalls as they can come with both types of weather systems. More about that at:

Most of our spots have kiting restrictions due to the high population and long time that kiting has been going on here.
I would search for Pompano, LBTS and Delray on this site for more information about those areas and precautions. There is a small technical launch at the south end of Ft. Lauderdale Beach with more info about that at
http://fksa.org/showthread.php?t=11451 You may want to fit in some road trips to Jupiter, Miami and the Keys for some different kiting locations and conditions if you can. There is tons of information about all these areas on this site.
I would use the search engines to try to find a hotel at a price and at a location to your liking in Ft. Lauderdale or Pompano Beach at

Have a great trip and good winds!
