Costa Rica Trip Report
Just got back from Bahia Salinas in Costa Rica. I spent 4 days kiting, we had 20-25 the first 3 days and 35-40 the last day. Perfect sideshore winds, huge space with no more than 15-20 kiters on the water. The wind is suppossed to bloew there from December through May. Some days it hits 50mph. We stayed in a cabana 50 meters from the beach with a kitchenette, incredible view; sleeps 5 and only $65 / night.
We flew into San Jose which is about a 5 hour drive to Bahia Salinas. You can also fly into Liberia, Costa Rica direct from MIA which is a 2.5 hour flight and than a 1.5 hour drive. Flight is a fair amount more though.
We also went to Laguna Arenal where you can also kite; it was blowing the day we were we there but the weather was crappy so I did not kite there.
I would highly recommend Bahia Salinas/Playa Copal; the wind is on and with the way things are going here, it was cool to get a few days in a row in. There are a couple of kiting instructors down there giving lessons or renting gear if you need a smaller kite. I rented a board from the guy with cometa copal and my wife took lessons. They were cool.
If you want some info on where to stay etc., let me know
Cheers
