Highest jump? ( ... on a windsurfer?)
Just saw this impressive footage out of the Gorge on a 50 kt. day. Has anyone seen a higher jump on a windsurfer before? Hell of a way to end the jump though, ouch!

Previously the biggest windsurfing jumps I recall were by Robby smoking off some nice swells in Hawaii. That one was big too and from the angle of the cameras it is hard to say which is higher, the Gorge or Robby's boost. Having the Gorge windsurfers board rip away horizontally at high speed is pretty impressive though. Leash? If that guy had a leash, good chance it would have pulled his leg off with it!

The Gorge jump was definitley impressive. More so given that it is a river swell. He said he bailed out because he had too much speed for landing the jump (comment on Youtube).
That Naish scene I dont think is the biggest jump, but watch him drop behind the wave during landing. Add another 20 feet to his height that you dont see behind the wave. I love the next scene where he is screaming across the open blue at break neck speeds and thru huge swells. Very cool. |
