Kitesurfing Holidays in Florida

Hey,
My name is Felix Leonhardt and im a german semi pro kiteboarder i compete in the german kiteboarding championship and inbetween two events of that kiteboarding tour i want to visit the states because i have family back in Louisiana.
I need to be able to kitesurf though and there is no way of doing it in louisiana. Because Florida is to my knowledge the closest place where one can kitesurf i was wondering where the best spots ( wind probability?) in august are and wether it is a good idea to train in florida rather than california or elsewhere?
Are there any other Places that i should know of, would the Gorge be better than florida?
Thank you for your help i really appreciate it
Felix Leonhardt

I'm from florida, and in July I leave because there is no wind, I goto the Gorge with 25 kts everyday. Florida has zero unless a hurricane comes

The closest place to kite from louisiana is probably Texas ( galveston ) usually a 15 kts seabreeze 75% during summer, but not as windy as the gorge.

California, around sherman island or san francisco is also windy during summer everyday in the afternoons

Hello Felix,

Raul nailed it, ironically, August may be our lightest wind month of the year. The nearest wind destination would be SE Texas, Corpus Christi to South Padre Island. Looking at historical winds for August last year, the later half of the month had quite a few squalls messing the useable winds up somewhat. Not sure how regular an event that is annually. More in the wind archives at: http://www.ikitesurf.com/windandwher...1&timeoffset=0

Never been to the Gorge, yet. Raul has been going there for how long? The only observation I can offer is that the quality of the wind may differ there from your competition venues. The wind is pretty gusty there right Raul? If you are in serious training that difference if it is one might be significant.

NE California and Sherman Island come to mind as does Baja. August can be a poor wind month in the Caribbean due to tropical weather system impacts on tradewinds.

Good luck wherever you land!

Going there since 2000 for 2 weeks each year in July. It's not as gusty as people make it out to be, although it can sometimes easily cycle from 20 to 30 kts every so often. Sometimes its rock steady.

Baja Mex south of Ensenada on the Pacific side can easily be 25-30+ kts during early summer as well, of course there is nothing down there so you have to camp.

Galveston is 4-6 hours closer to LA than Corpus Christi, and maybe a few kts less

Galveston
