The 300.29.1 Rule

Here is something interesting I learned in a trauma life support class over the weekend.
It is a risk statistic from the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.

300 Times you do an unsafe act there will be no problem.

29 Times you will have a close call.

1 Time it will have a tragic outcome.

Brian Lee Schubert was one of 388 jumpers who base jumped at the bridge day base jumping celebration. He's the one out 300. He was killed when he delpoyed his chute too late.

So one out of approximately 300 seems pretty darn accurate!

I wonder if this applies to launching hooked in... hmmm...

I wonder how much more time I have left before I have a close call? knowing my luck I am at 299 right now and don't know it.

Tom, I like to think of it like this...I launch hooked in 299 times. The next guy does it once and has a close call. I launch another 299 times hooked in. The next guy finally musters up the courage to launch hooked in again and has another close call. Etc, etc, etc...

Sure hope my one time NEVER comes!!!
