Ft. Lauderdale BAN Threat, again!

Guys are kiting through the swim areas, inside the swim buoys routinely, again. If you want to ride the shore break, you can't do it here!

I just heard from a head lifeguard that they are again discussing banning kiting here. This could extend to other cities. We cannot allow
this to happen. Neil was forced to not renew his concession, so this is on US to cure.

We need to build awareness and tactfully get the word across to others who could well shut down your ability to kite here and elsewhere.
This is serious in short.

Please come out for a general meeting Jesse is setting up at Liquid Surf & Sail, directions http://bit.ly/qNmxTv. It is at 6:30 pm,
Tuesday, October 11, 2011. We need to build awareness and get the kite community involved in keeping things open here. Keeping people
out of the swim zone is the solution.

Please spread the word about this meeting and attend. Your actions at the beach may make ALL the difference in the world in keeping
both this and other kite areas.

This was prepared when there was still a kiting concession here, now gone. The boundaries still apply however. Use the access corridor
and ride outside the buoys until time to come back in, again through this same corridor.

PROTECT YOUR ACCESS, don't lose this spot or any others down the coast!
Come to this meeting and take it to the beach after.

Other areas are having complaints too, largely from kiters riding inside the swim zones. They may be doing downwinders from other areas or just riding off that particular beach. So, even though Ft. Lauderdale is focusing on this now, other beaches north and south are dealing with this same problem.

For this reason it would be GOOD to have representatives from these other beaches show up at this meeting, Delray, Boca, Deerfield, Pompano, LBTS, Ft. Lauderdale, Dania and Hollywood. When some of us visit different venues or downwinders these threats to access can follow us.

Shutting down our access with something as dumb and avoidable as riding inside swim zones off guarded beaches is WRONG. We need to change the kiting community attitude towards this problem and get past this silly but dangerous problem to access.

Rick,

Its sad to hear that you guys are having trouble down there again. I see it here far to often that nothing changes and people do what they want. I appreciate all the work you put in and hope the riders down there wake up and try to protect what you guys have left.

Yes it is, this battle has been reoccurring for as long as kiting has been around. The first time was ten years ago. Thank you for your input and good luck with things up your way.
The kiting community needs to take this simple issue more seriously. Some behaviors just won't be tolerated and are looked down upon. That alone would reduce a good deal of the problem. The hard cases, indifferent idiots would fall into the minority which they actually form.

We just need to raise awareness and I think that will reduce the number of incidents. It won't make them go away but it will sure be a good start. Hope you got some riding in this weekend up there.
