The Kahoona on the Emerald Coast
We've been testing the new Best Kahoona here in Panama City Beach, FL the last few weeks and wanted to post some photos of the kite in detail. Most of the guys here in the shop fly the Nemi or Waroo, so it was a treat to try something new. Enjoy the pics below, more to come later. If you are in the area, come on by the shop and fly the Kahoona.
http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-01.jpg The bag is the perfect size, very easy to fit the kite, nice drawstring, pocket on the front for your keys, cell phone, ipod, whatever. There's a little port for your headphone cable, if you roll with the tunes going. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-02.jpg Back of the bag, very nicely constructed, padded shoulder straps. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-03.jpg Bag with the 09 Redline bar attached. No bar or pump pockets on this bag, but some typical straps for holding down a bar or pump. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-04.jpg 09 Kahoona and Redline bar, that's not snow on the ground, white sugary sand. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-05.jpg 11.5 is what we are testing out today http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-08.jpg New draw string tightener deal, looks stronger than the old one http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-09.jpg Getting ready to fly! http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-10.jpg Here's the kite laid out on the beach, you instantly notice the "Delta" shape of this kite. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-12.jpg Pumping her up, no EZ Pump on this, we find most people prefer the standard inflation. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-13.jpg They added an extra layer of ripstop to help prevent any wear from the valves on the LE. Smart http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-14.jpg This kite feels very lightweight compared to alot of others, these kites just glide in the air. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-15.jpg Kahoona all pumped up, the 11.5 is the "Big Kahoona" http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-16.jpg Beefy reinforcements on the ends of all of the struts http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-17.jpg Foam bumpers over the top of the struts, lightweight but very protective. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-18.jpg Pulleys on the front bridles, pretty standard http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-19.jpg No middle strut on the Kahoona, only 4 struts total, keeps the kites weight down. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-20.jpg Bomber seam on the leading edge, diameter is pretty normal. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-21.jpg Shot of the 2 piece strut, cool silk screen on the struts http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-22.jpg Wingtips are pinched, making the Delta shape, great for relaunch-ability http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-23.jpg Kevlar skids on the LE, this part of the kite gets alot of wear during launch/landing, so this helps alot. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-24.jpg Kite is very solid, or bud Rick showing off the Kahoona http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-25.jpg The Kahoona in the air, no wrinkles in the canopy, very stable http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-26.jpg The white is our favorite color so far for the Kahoona http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-28.jpg You can see here the kite starting to roll over and relaunch http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-29.jpg And liftoff, winds were pretty light here, about 14mph. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-30.jpg The membrane valves on the struts keep getting better and better each year. Airtight lock. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-27.jpg Here's a shot of the Redline bar, lots of depower, nice components, we'll have a full review coming soon. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-32.jpg Redline bar on the beach, the actual red line or safety line is pretty beefy, has worked flawlessly. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-33.jpg Same metal insert in the center of the bar as the 09 Best bar, works perfect, no wear or tear. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-34.jpg Soft EVA grip, very comfortable design, easy to see red & blue colors. http://www.emeraldcoastkiteboarding....d-coast-06.jpg Color coded lines, pretty standard on most bars. Check out our new quick test flight video on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YchDGH5Rwwc That's it for now, we've got some video of the kite in action, as well as a full on review, that we'll be posting on our website soon. I'll post a link to it here as soon as it goes online. If you have any specific questions about the Kahoonas drop me an email or pm. |
