Surviving the Death Loop.

A friend just sent this to me. Great find on his part:

There is an expanding discussion of the video on Kiteforum. I was going to post something about it here but decided to hold off until I learned more and thought it over.

I am uncertain how well this approach will work in all looping scenarios which have occurred. Then again, unless the kiter can ditch the kite, something breaks or otherwise defuses the kite's power the rider might well be killed, so what's to lose? It is worth watching and thinking over carefully. You never know when you might have a similar problem and stopping the kite can be a bear once it starts. One concern I have is that after much looping you may not be able to shift the lines to even be able to stall the kite and end the emergency. Once again though, your options are even fewer at that point.

A key takeaway from all of this is considering how big a kite one rides. A massively oversized kite for the conditions can be exponentially more dangerous than a properly sized kite when something goes wrong.
