Aviation Kite invasion to Bimini this weekend!!!!

Hi guys,

I know that after the trip JP and RickI did a little while ago, the discussion of a true Air kite invasion with more than one airplane came up.

This weekend we will fly to Bimini on friday morning, returning on sunday. The wind doesn't look too good, but hey! A weekend getaway on the Bahama's is always good. We hope to be riding at least on friday.

If you have access to a plane/people with a plane, come out and we'll meet up in Bimini for kiting, and more importantly a couple of drinks!

We don't have room for more passengers unfortunately, maybe next time.

Jur!

If you have any riding tips for Bimini, please share!!!!

Hey Jur,

Sounds like a great idea! Wish I could join you folks this time. Grew up going over to Bimini, fun place. The forecast for the Straits of Florida, west of Bimini is for 10 to 15 kts. east for Friday. This would be offshore at north Bimini Beach. The thing is local meteorology sometimes alters regional winds and turns the side to side onshore relative to the Bahamian Plateau and North and part of South Bimini Beach. I don't know of any realtime wind sites that you could use to help you know in advance what to expect before you arrive in Bimini though.

If the wind is offshore relative to North Bimini beach this brings a few options to mind. One would be to rent a boat and run south to Turtle Rocks, anchor off to the east of them, setup and launch from the shallows to the east of these cays. Should be near butter conditions. Another option would be to get to the NE coast of North Bimini, really need a boat for this too. East would be side onshore to the beach there. If the wind is strong enough, hopefully the bugs won't be bad. Another option that comes to mind is to find an area in Bimini Sound, that is the area east of Alice Town and Baily Town that is shallow enough to launch from. Since they dredged that appalling channel to the new development at the north end of the island, not sure what areas still exist that might work. Perhaps just south of Bimini Bay.

The north end of North Bimini showing the beach off the NE coast and the new development to the west.

Wait a second, I recall that you might have a way into Bimini Bay. If that is the case, you should be able to walk into the shallows off there to the east and rip loose.

There's two aircraft. Probably have some spaces on JP's plane, maybe, if it isn't already too late? Like JP said, who else is in? Wish I could make this one.
