CABRINHA RACE SERIES IN FULL SWING

SO, after seven nights of racing, we are just past the half way point in the 2010 edition of the Cabrinha Race Series….where kite course racing all started!

Five racers are basically packed together and battling it out night after night with Chip Wasson having the advantage going into the last five nights of racing. The official scoring shows that he is followed by Stefaans Viljoen, Joey Pasquali, Chris Brown and Frank Wittke. However, with projected throwouts, it appears that Eric Due and Geoff Headington will comfortably move ahead of Brown and Wittke.

Then there is a second pack of racers battling it out for positions 6-10; Brown, Wittke, Kevin Richards, Eric Geleynse, and Marcello Segura.

Race Night # 8 is scheduled for Thursday July 29. Free raffle for all particpants after the racing at the St Francis.

The Cabrinha Race Series is brought to you by Cabrinha, Ozonetravel, Captain Kirk’s, and hosted by the St. Francis Yacht Club

It is interesting how much more wind there seems to be out in mid channel from the white caps.

When compared to some other areas which may have more land based wind shadow.

About how much higher would guess the wind is out there Steve?

Rick:
photos with the B buoy are in the lee of the yacht club to some extent depending how much S or W. The photos of the windward mark (GG bridge in the backround) is no further out in the bay than the start boat...same with photos of the lee mark in previous posts. If you take a look at Ikitesurf wind reading at Anita...that is a buoy that is just off the launch area and 2/3 the way windward towards the windward mark and the start boat, you can usually add 3-5 for the wind outside. the more south the wind has in it the difference is greater outside vs inside. When the wind is W it is filled into the beach...the GG bridge basically runs North (Marin side) and South (SF side)...also in these photos, I'm am shooting way more into the wind when the windward mark is shown...always looks windier when you look upwind :=)
hope that helps...steve
