Yesterday, Kicked My arse, Seemed Like 14-25knts.Thanks To the guy that rescued my board for me.... Is it even possible to body drag upwind??? I didn't believe my instructor when he told me and I still don't What is the trick??do they have to be Long tacks or what. It seemed like every time I tried down wind is where i'd go, further from my board.

Its easy to body drag upwind. It takes practice but I can usually make it back to my board in 1 or 2 short tacks depending how far it is behind me.

Most newbies tend to put their kite at 12 to fast when they approach their board and get pulled down wind. Keep the kite low and near the edge of the window and then use your leading arm and legs as your rudders. Keep the kite depowered until you get more proficient at body dragging upwind.

a huge amount depends on the current..

if you are working with a strong current and trying to body drag against it you will have a really tough time.. if not complete failure..

in those cases its best to drag to shore, keep an eye on your board, walk up the beach far upwind of your board and drag back out.

I've had to do this a number of times when riding the gulf and getting pulled far downwind where i know it would take lots of time to drag to the board.

but in normal conditions you should be able to flatten out your body, point your free arm out and use it as leverage to crank upwind in a bodydrag.. definitely spend some times practicing this...

I didn't think this was possible as a newb either when I started. I knew the technique and it was only when I was forced to do it that I learned quickly.

now its easy, I have had alot of practice!

So the instructor told you that you can body drag upwind but didn't teach you how?
