Nantucket anyone?

Hi,

Going to be living on Nantucket for the summer. Been in contact with
Mike Hall who kites alot on Martha's Vineyard. Said he would show me
around and introduce me to some kiters. Already moved my kites up there.
Will be there on the 1st.

Anyone else here familiar with kiting on Nantucket? Look me up. I'll
be flying for Cape Air there through September. Any info or tips would be cool.

Great place to stay and ride. There have been some threats to access up there. Mike should know the rules. There is some info at http://www.nantucketkiteboarding.com/ Have a great summer up there!

Went out to Pocomo Point twice so far. I live 7.5 miles away and with no car. So I have to ride my bike there and back & have to choose which kite to bring.

Day 1 - I brought my 15 and it really turned on so I just sat and helped guys luanch and land. A cool kiter let me ride his 9 for a bit.

Day 2 - I do something DUMB! In my excitement to get on the water I didn't hook up my safety leash. After a fall I was flipping my board over and the edge of the board popped the main safety release. I heard "click" and watched my SWB3 go sailing away.

I was about 200 yards out in the harbor and could swim back but I was more concerned about the kite. Thank goodness it was in the harbor on the Ocean side.

As I was swimming in trying figure out how to explain this one to the wife, some boaters came up and picked me up. Got to the kite, deflated it and they dropped me back at shore.

Tough lesson learned. That won't happen again.

Much better time two days later. Went out again. Met two locals
and kited over to a sand bar/beach at Bass Point in Nantucket. Picture attached is Pocomo
Point.

Winds were SW and solid. It was choppy going over but glass on the lee
side. You can see it in the pic. Kited for almost 3 hours before heading
back before I got too tired to make the trek on some upwind tacks to get
back to Pocomo Point. This time I made SURE to hook in my leash. DOH.

On the end of the sand bar a seal was just chillin out watching the three of
us going back and forth. Never seen a seal before. Great day! Then the fog
rolled in. Headed home to Pocomo Point. Took only 4 tacks to cross the harbor.

Steve-O come on up for a visit! I'll put you on a Cape Air flight and our couch.

Nice time lapse video! Glad you got your kite back too. I was only on the island once ten years ago. Even brought some kites but it was nippy even in August and had a cold anyway. We had fog move in later in the day. It comes even if there is wind I think correct? What are your typical winds like?

Mike was washed out to sea one winter evening in the outgoing tidal rips there at the inlet. Ended up with a long, freezing trek overland. Managed to find some shelter even though most properties were closed before freezing himself.

Winds are normally out of the SW this time of year. Next few days are gonna be light. Water temps in the harbor have been great. I bought a spring suit which was a waste. July 1st was the first day I kited and didn't need it.
I guess in the fall it will come in handy.

Funny about the fog. As a pilot they teach you in pilot weather 101 that fog is usually associated with light winds. ACK is the exception to the rule. Because it's an island and location, it's setup perfect to be windy and foggy all at once. That will decrease as summer really comes it. Happens a lot in spring.
