Downwinder Anyone?

If the wind cooperates today, is anyone interested in a downwinder from south skyway to bahia beach?
it is about 15 miles and makes the Planet of the Apes run pale in comparison.
Really an awesome journey with a lot of little islands and sand bars in between.
We need ideally W-SW around 15 kts or so, should happen........

Tom Stock 05-11-2008 07:14 AM

I am interested but not available until the afternoon..

BigR 05-11-2008 07:17 AM

we can wait till afternoon , wind'sll get even stronger then, just spiked up to 17-18kt SW

anyone else? we can meet @ S skyway and have pick up / take back cars @ bahia bch

Kev 05-11-2008 07:35 AM

I think I may be in. whgat time do you think you'll start? since it's spiking now - I'm readdy to get out. I have not been out in forever. are you going to ride a little somewhere beforehand?

That had to have been one of the most awesome downwinders ever of all time:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D!

Tom Stock 05-11-2008 06:29 PM

Weird, it was gusty as hell at the beginner side.

awesome

BigR 05-11-2008 06:37 PM

the other side was steady , windy and

AWESOME!

inferno 05-11-2008 06:38 PM

how much you guys think it was blowing down there?

BigR 05-11-2008 06:46 PM

S skyway is sideoffshore on SW so windshadow until you get 300+ yards offshore

Then fully powered on 12-13m's except lill'l on the 9m

Finally really super powered up by the end, I was soo tired

Skyway Scott 05-11-2008 07:07 PM

It's great to hear so many people had an awesome day. ;)
I was sick as a dog. Oh well, next time.

JoshTaylor 05-11-2008 07:09 PM

nice, i had a good sesh at redington beach. some nice kickers there.

fully powerd on my 12, super litt at some times.

inferno 05-11-2008 07:57 PM

i guess it was better up north :D

i started on a 13m fuel and ended the day powered on a 11m fuel with enough juice to hit some pretty good kite loops....

btw, Tom.... thats one tuff board.... i hit atleast 25-30 kiteloops today... and havent broke it yet :)

Tom Stock 05-11-2008 07:58 PM

Yeah my 12 would have been perfect but Danny had it so I was on a 9... the lulls were not enough to have fun.

inferno 05-11-2008 08:22 PM

tom, you would have been perfectly powered on your 9m up north...
brian at 180lbs was litt on his 10m SB3, and i was powered on an 11m Ckite.....

6hrs of kiting and im toast, i feel it in the morning :)

Raul is right on!! I don't do downwinders very ofter but that was the best ride I ever had. Only the 3 of us kiting the whole way. Very few boats. Glassy water and excellent wind for the 13 M until we got to the very end when it really cranked up and we were all too tired to have any more fun!!!

Skyway Scott 05-12-2008 06:53 AM

Awesome.

toby and i did downwinder from PAG to Sunset Beach.. stopped at the bar for a beer.. i continued down to Maderia beach by myself..

wind was gusty and crappy as far as i am concerned.. barely enough at times to plain .. on my 13m warroo..

oh well..

looks like it picked up later in the day..

i should have gone to south skyway.. next time.

Tom Stock 05-12-2008 11:09 AM

it was pretty gusty everywhere... but a down winder in flatter water would have made it less of an issue, especially if you are not jumping a whole lot (like on a directional, etc).

BigR 05-12-2008 12:29 PM

none of us were on directionals and it was pretty much flat to small chop, but it wasn't gusty. just kept building , steady, and building once you got a mile or so away from S Skyway

Awesome!

BigR 05-12-2008 12:34 PM

kinda like this

Awesome!

Skyway Scott 05-12-2008 01:36 PM

Too bad not everyone is awesome and some ride like total losers.
I just got a PM telling me how ridiculously bad one spot along the beach was yesterday with the same ol' crap, like jumping close to kids.

To the rest of us... we are AWESOME.

Tom Stock 05-12-2008 02:02 PM

Sounds like I rode the wrong spot yesterday, not so awesome!

As for the beaches, I have seen some pretty incredible riding out there! I thank god every day for providing us with such talent.

Our god is an AWESOME god!

Skyway Scott 05-12-2008 03:11 PM

Awesome!!

Lori 05-12-2008 06:28 PM

Yea as Raul said you can't judge the ride on a SW wind at skyway south as huge windshadow so sketchy getting going but once you get out it is AWESOME.

You have some spots out there that are very cool. Sandbars makes for flat water much of the stretch can see fish darting around, not many people a few fisherman and that is it. Only bad thing is no bystanders to be impressed with my AWESOME four ft jumps out there

Not alot of outs but we have a boat that can access that area from our house fairly quickly so......
Port Manatee area is the only spot would hate to break down in on that ride.

Kev 05-13-2008 07:25 AM

Lori - You are being modest. I saw some of those 20 ft jumps you had and the like 3 fishermen we saw were chearing for you!!

It was an AWESOME day - I'm just glad Raul didn't jump over that boat like the fisherman asked him to but he did jump over the mangroves a couple of times and over that boat in the port.............................

Lori 05-13-2008 08:45 AM

Kevin really glad you made the run with us and thanks for holding on to my harness when landing at the end cuz I was getting gooffy tired by then

By the way I think that was you they were cheering for with those lofty jumps!

Hope we can do that again in the near future.

Skyway Scott 05-13-2008 08:58 AM

Awesome!
