looks like its starting again...

sensors are changing, im thinking of heading to irb around 4, hopefully it holds

Skyway Scott 01-19-2007 01:20 PM

I hope so too. We will know soon. I wish the SW would go to ZERO... c'mon now!! Or at least let the Boca Ciega sensor show NW at 6.
If either or both happen, I am outta here:D

inferno 01-19-2007 01:51 PM

fred howard park, just passed 0 degrees

Wind gusts 14.4 knots
Wind direction 358°True

Skyway Scott 01-19-2007 02:07 PM

The Baynews9 skycam shows the wind coming in and trees moving.

It looks NW. I am outta here.
I am pretty sure you are going to get wind up North for sure Danny.
I just want to stay closer. Have a good time.

E-Bone 01-19-2007 03:22 PM

It died at FHP around 4pm, just as I got off work. Looks like noon to 4pm was good. That sensor on COMPS is always 1 to 1-1/2 hour behind. Is it more up to date anywhere else?

I've found that the Clearwater beach sensor is usually more up to date, but being out on a barrier island, the seabreeze effect is sometimes not as noticable.

Cheers

How can you get skunked when a camera is showing white caps and you live 8 minutes away?

I hit one solid hour of good wind before it slowed (right when 2 windsurfers showed up and rigged and unfortunately, right when Danny showed up, too).

Despite it slowing down, we got to test the low end of Danny's new Crazy Fly board and his new 20m kite. Pretty unreal. I think that CF might actually have the Glide beat in low wind ability. It's at least it's equal.
I was going upwind in some pretty light stuff and so was Danny.
We used a local windsurfer (Britt) who I've known for years and is simply awesome and has the best lightwind poleboarding gear made as our reference. He can plane out in 7 knots. When it slowed, he wasn't planing and we were.
That's gotta hurt!

I've seen you do it. Unfortunately, I've seen it live because you called me just before charging and convinced me to come along!

No worries, glad you got some. Guess I have to live vicariously through you today.

Skyway Scott 01-19-2007 06:21 PM

I can't remember that situation. Was it at PaG or the SW sensor was reading 20?
No worries, it won't happen again.

No apologies required, I think we tried to charge 9 and it turned out to be 6. Must have been a summer session.

Skyway Scott 01-19-2007 06:40 PM

Danny, were you pleasantly surprised?

inferno 01-19-2007 07:30 PM

solid 8 knots, able to hold my ground at 200lbs in chop.... not bad at all,
on top of that, it turns faster then my old 16m waroo, almost as fast as my 14m waroo did..

cant wait to ride it in solid 10knots on flat water:cool:

inferno 01-19-2007 07:35 PM

hey scott, i might go ahead an try dp tomorrow, looks like a light NE, may be to light at SW but should be enough at SSW... i only need 10knots;)

Skyway Scott 01-19-2007 08:19 PM

Welcome to the world of actually enjoying 10 :p

I will be out there if this sensor says 9 or more.

Does sound like South SW might be the ticket.

BigR 01-20-2007 03:56 AM

reading 17-20

iz dat right?

Skyway Scott 01-20-2007 04:55 AM

I would guess around 15 from the other sensors.
Are you going out soon?, or gonna wait and hope for a boost at 8:30, (plus that's low tide for the s sw).

inferno 01-20-2007 05:03 AM

ill be there around 7 and give you an update

Skyway Scott 01-20-2007 05:35 AM

South side? Thanks.
Albert Whitted just updated to 14. That can't be bad.

bryanleighty 01-20-2007 10:32 AM

danny.. whats your new 20m kite?

inferno 01-20-2007 10:57 AM

20m rrd hir, super fast, almost as quick as my 14m waroo was,

i was kite looping it this morning....:)

Unimog Bob 01-20-2007 11:17 AM

The secret spot (launch north of the regular N SW launch) sucks. I mean it doesn’t BLOW! I was at the regular N SW launch this AM and decided to give the spot further north a try. Narrow muddy launch area, gusty dirty wind, scattered submerged object. I wish I had stayed at the regular SW

Bob

BigR 01-20-2007 11:56 AM

I don't know Bob,

every time I've kited SS has been very nice, of course I've never launched
there so I wouldn't know about that. I just upwind it from regular Skyway.

But, I do agree the wind at SS was much much less today than at regular SW and even S SW had less wind in spite of the whitecaps on that side. What's up with that?

Oh well, had fun on the water and that's what counts

Unimog Bob 01-20-2007 01:19 PM

Well it is much better than not kiting, but regular Skyway would have been better. I'm sure Scott and Danny will back me up. Secret Spot was not the right call for today. I can't think of a wind direction where there is not a better location close by.

Bob

BigR 01-20-2007 01:36 PM

Well then I don't know what prompted that decision, it wasn't even really crowded just no water on the inside
