Noob questions about tampa bay

I've been an avid motorcyclists for almost 3 years but i recently totaled my bike (im alright for the most part). And well the insurance company is being pretty generous with paying me for the bike. Their giving me $7000 for my bike that was worth around $5000. i was originally thinking about just going ahead and buying a better bike but now I'm toying with the idea of buying an equivalent bike for $5000 and then taking the other $2000 and learning how to kitesurf along with buying some gear.

If i do decide to kitesurf I'll probably be going out to Tampa bay or possibly somewhere in Sarasota. and i was wondering how often can you guys actually get out and ride. like on the average summer/spring/fall/winter week can you ride 2-3 days or 6-7, and on those days is there a certain time of day thats generally better than others? from what i understand you need 10 knots, i just don't know how often that happens or doesn't happen.

also ill probably be buying used gear, is there anything i should watch out for when buying used gear?

you need 15 knots

today is a good day, that makes for at least 1 day this week soo far

forget summer, fall winter and spring it is "ON"

anytime it blows morning noon or night is killa

If you have a flexible schedule, 2 days a week is do-able, sometimes more.
Summer time, like Raul said, just don't even think about kiting.

The only thing I would like to add is the possibility of wind during the summer.

If you look at Aug and Sept for example, that is peak hurricane season. Now I'm not saying go out in a hurricane, however a Low pressure system nearby can bring some epic conditions and epic surf. I don't teach unless its blowing 15 or more, and I checked my records, and I did quite a bit of teaching this past August for example.

I have seen some pretty dead periods any time of year for that matter.

But there is no question the chance of getting out is higher in fall/winter/spring.

My take on wind speed is 10knts does suck, but 12/13 or more, well....a fun session can be had. I do some really beautiful downwinders in these windspeeds alot during the warmer months and as they say, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
