good session at backside yesterday

nice surprise sea breeze last night. backside skyway from 430 to 630 decently powered on 16m waroo. small jumps, but i was quite content just cruising the area.. a lot of W in the wind made for some great tacks from near East Beach up to the bridge ... tide was flooding out so upwind was nothing. i took a rest out past the channel for a minute and the tide pulled my board quickly into the wind as i was sitting down on a sand bar.

also..

bob invented a new trick .. something of a flailing jump / kiteloop / board-off / faceplant.. I'm not sure if he's given it name yet..i was thinking Bob-loop or B-loop or just BLOOP.

i got a good session in at sunset, man that place rocks at low tide...
wind was more from the north at 14-18mph, when i started my first tack i noticed it was only a foot or so deep, so i figured i would head outward and see how far the shallows go for..... about a mile later i decided i was tired of trying to find the end of the shallows and turned around, i covered over a mile and never saw more then 2ft of water, butter flat everywhere, i even chased a small hammerhead around since he couldnt get deep enough to hide his fins :) (thats two sharks in two sessions... at least i didnt hit this one...)

Yesterday was a very nice surprise, Solid 13 to 15kts nicely powered on the 12M and a glide. I was getting some nice high jumps by sending it from down low , turning toward the kite to slack the lines for a second then hard upwind to really launch as the kite made it to the top. I created my new move that I call the Hello Muddy when I slipped my front foot out of the strap on take off and the glide tried to separate my back leg at the knee. I never did stop pulling on the back hand as I tried to panic kick the board lose. At least one loop before I planted it in four inches of water and I think two more before I release my one handed death grip on the bar. I’m glad Brian got to wittiness it, and I can share a chuckle with the rest of my bros. I sure felt it, but it didn’t leave a mark.

Sunset is the shnizzle!!!!!!!! One of the biggest flats around accessible by car.

Did you have the place to yourself Danny?

That was most likely a bonnet head. They are literally all over the place.
Anywhere there are decent grass beds, there are bonnetheads. :)
If you ever want to catch one: take a live blue crab, crack its shell, and cast it out on a number 5 long shank hook with some 50 pound mono leader or just wire leader.
Best bait in the world for these guys. The smell of the crab drives the bonnetheads into a "search frenzy" . It's pretty fun to catch them and if you are in shallow water you can watch as several of them circle around and finally hone in on your bait.
They are pretty harmless. Just use some common sense when removing the hook (or just cut it off and put on another). The hook will rust out or come out soon enough.
