got cool pics from Bimini or other Bahamas Islands, post them here
I have a ton of cool pics from Bimini. I'll get them up as soon as possible. I'm sure Neil has some great stuff from the Xrated Bahamas Crossing. We will get them up ASAP. Here are twp clips from West End trip to Grand Bahama Labor Day weekend. Check the one with the small shark and the other tandem ride to the small island about 1 mile from short. Bimini Bay is vey similar. The 3rd clip shows the water of Bimini Bay at 25 knots. The island that we are racing toward is were the fun box will be set up.

Great video clips Kent! Looks like a lot of fun ripping around the flats.
Here's a short clip of Bimini flying just north of the island looking down over the event site. http://www.fksa.org/albums/album347/Straits_2.jpg Heading down from Kings Highway (a large sidewalk of sorts) to the beach of North Bimini http://www.fksa.org/albums/album347/...mini_Beach.jpg A look across the same beach to the Straits of Florida http://www.fksa.org/albums/album347/Bimini_Sound.jpg The north end of Bimini Sound near the event site and resort http://www.fksa.org/albums/album347/Weeches_Dock.jpg The docks of Alice Town, North Bimini Who else has some stills over video of the Biminis or Bahamas? Must be tons of great stuff out there. Photos by Rick Iossi . |
Here are a couple of video clips shot while riding off Harbour Cay in the Berry Islands
to the east of the Bimini's in the Bahamas. Shredding happy in JP's Pond Riding out to a small island off the beach It staggers the mind just HOW MANY riding areas there like this in the Family Islands. Just in Bimini alone you could spend a week or more just riding around the sections of North, South Bimini, Bimini Sound, hell why not tool down past Turtle Rocks to Gun and Cat Cays? It really is better in the Bahamas. Don't take my word for it, check out Bimini Winds and see for yourself. |
Here's a couple more clips from the Abacos during that remarkable late season cold front we had in early June this year.
A sunset session off graveyard beach, Hope Town in the Abacos. Waves and wind, amazing. I'm used the Bahamas being calm and flat that time of year. Ripping along off Nippers Beach Bar on Guana Cay also in the Abacos. All the waves, wind and one handed bar operation makes for some bumpy video, sorry! |
JP Robinson was just overflying Bimini over the last two days and he brought back some photos. As you can see from the shots, they had WIND! How much would you say JP and from what direction? Also, what is your guess about the swell height, look substantial and well formed. Bimini Sound, the part to the east of the island is calm as usual. Look at the west facing coast of North Bimini, some honking nice waves!
http://www.fksa.org/albums/album367/004_s.jpg Looking SSW over the western shore of North Bimini http://www.fksa.org/albums/album367/038_s.jpg Moving a bit further east http://www.fksa.org/albums/album367/025_s.jpg Heading W just south of Bimini Bay. It's located along the northern portion of Bimini where Standard Properties was located. http://www.fksa.org/albums/album367/024_s.jpg A bit further west over Bimini Bay. LOOK at those swells! http://www.fksa.org/albums/album367/016_s.jpg JP says he won't be in town for the event, we'll miss you and your great aerial shots! JP was the guy that flew us over the Harbour Cay for some day kiting. He is a commercial pilot and spends quite a bit of time flying over the islands. More at: http://fksa.org/showthread.php?t=5986 Thanks for the photos JP. Looking forward to the event and grabbing some of those swells. There are square miles of flat water a couple of hundred yards east in Bimini Sound for many of the races/events during Bimini Winds. |

Amazing the amount of development on that little strip of island. It wouldn't take much for it to look like Galveston after Ike.

Thanks for putting up the photos Rick and yes there was wind and there were waves, with all the gear we were carrying there was no room for toys, the wind was a steady 15 kts side off shore, a rocky outcropping about a half mile off Bimini Bay was holding up a long, hollow left, about three feet, must have been peeling a hundred yards, all I could do was watch :(

I just came across some old Bimini clips and thought I would post them here to keep track.
A fairly long 1991 documentary on Bimini, a bit trite in spots but with some interesting views from that time. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=499503268808 A flight on Chalks in 1991 from Miami to Bimini. It captures some of the sensations of this remarkable way of crossing the Straits. A more recent clip from 2011 with an historical overview of Bimini and colorful characters from over the years. Piccolo Pete is interviewed, I can recall hearing him perform at the Complete Angler from the early 1970's and on. An old IGFA clip about tuna fishing in the Biminis The ending of "Silence of the Lambs" with Dr. Lector strolling down an unusually busy street scene in south Alice Town. Here is a collection of 84 early movie clips from all over the Caribbean, not necessarily Bimini but worth looking over. . |

Great shot JP! I ran into a small hammerhead off shore of that point at the top of the frame. It is an interesting out of the way island.
