This afternoon Wed 30th

Hey guys/ gals , if this afternoon is ridable, where are people goin?

Reason I ask is b/c it is forecast to be 10 degrees ( NNE )
switching to N
then switching to 350 degrees ( NNW ), and as you all know these are tricky directions

Skyway south will work if low tide, anybody going skyway N or S or bches?

I guess bahia bch close to home also works

Decisions , decisions..........

tomstock 08-30-2006 08:28 AM

This afternoon is high tide, so South SW is out :(

How about a down winder from Gandy to downtown st. pete?

BigR 08-30-2006 08:35 AM

:D

I'd be up for that except if an unexpected feeder band came by all of a sudden , then I'd have no where to put in since once you commit , you commit start to finish

I check radar this afternoon to see if we still have this nice clear area we got right now :D

tomstock 08-30-2006 08:44 AM

Yeah I know I was thinking of that when I said it.... Sigh.... I dunno I may just pass and wait until it shifts west. If there's anything left, I'll go ride backside or the beaches.

I can't justify missing work for rainy gusty wind. In a month things may be better.

Skyway Scott 08-30-2006 01:16 PM

Is anyone going out? Just curious. Looks like it shifted a little while ago.

inferno 08-30-2006 02:02 PM

old port tampa has it at NNW, in another hour or so it should switch to NW, then cypress might be good, just have to keep an eye on the doppler, theres a nice band coming our way

A-Bomb 08-30-2006 02:21 PM

I may be hitting backside of Skyway afterwork, assuming enough West in it by then. This would be around 6:00.

A-Bomb 08-30-2006 02:33 PM

hmmm.... or Southeast end of skyway as BigR mentioned above. I'll take a look right when leaving work at about 5:30. If N or NNW South Skyway, if more NW maybe backside of north skyway.

Reddington beach and just North of it is cool for North winds, but not too convenient for me afterwork with limited time.

Good luck, I sat out at EB and the Skyway from about 8AM until 1:30 PM and now I know why they call him Josh Stinker...I mean Linker on Bay News 9. What a bummer, it doesn't take a professional meteorologist to predict that if a storm is on the way, so is wind but I would respect any meteorologist if they were calling the crappy wind thing from the get go on this one...

Just a tease to add up to our summer blues so far...

inferno 08-30-2006 02:39 PM

toby, did it ever pick up for you guys after i left?

toby wilson 08-30-2006 02:42 PM

Nope, it just teased us all day. Unless I see a big change in the windspeed at the Skyway, I am done for the day. Maybe it will pick up in an hour or so here? I sure hope so!!!

Skyway Scott 08-30-2006 04:06 PM

Is this someone on the cam?

A-Bomb 08-30-2006 04:37 PM

Jumping on 275 in a few minutes to check out both ends of skyway. Ports line saying 13 to 16. Maybe I can get a quickie (on water, not in mangroves).

Had an absolute blast this afternoon at Pic Is. Met Eric and we had a great session. We took cover from one huge squall and then it was on. Road almost directly upwind and even got is a couple of jumps . Road my15m SS so clearly there was plenty of wind. I’m sore and I’m sure it will be worse in the morning. Thanks Ernesto! :D

Like I told you at the SW Toby, wind had shifted.

It's no good at all whatsoever @ EB or SW once it shifts N Or NNW,

Gulf bchs @ PAG were a BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fully powered on a 14m contra!! :o :D

Sounds like you guys were are the wrong spot. Hate to say we told you so but... NNE as East Beach is not clean and is offshore anyway. NNW is definately not going to work.

rode backside skyway from 3:30 to 6:30... 12m waroo..
would say that 1/2 of the time i was moderately to low powered...

but...

the other 1/2 ...
it was just right.

nothing epic.. but .. i'll take a 3 hour session in the middle of summer any time.

Erick 08-31-2006 01:13 PM

Yes, it was nice to ride after a month of innactivity. Gary was riding really well. I saw him riding upwind with a big smile in his face. I still believe it was because he was on my FLX42 UG A.K.A "La burra". Way to go Big G!. Not a bad session at all.
