go slow new rules?

I have been thinking about this for a while, ever since roby d mentioned it to me.
should go slow be locals only?
all visitors can launch at go slow but have to stay out away from the bend?
allso if you suck at tricks on your port tack should you stay away from the bend? and stay out? (I suck on my port tack so that me included)
does stb right of way meen anything at go slow?
what do you guys think?

i agree if your not gonna do a trick or a jump stay outta the flatwater bay. It really gets annoying when ppl ride in there just to turn around. Many times i have had to taklc back and forth waiting for an opening.

thats my 50 cents

What I have enjoyed the most here is that we have no rules. We can launch from basically anywhere and even ride in the harbour if we wanted to.

Why turning go-slow locals only ? that would turn some tourits away. We don't own that place so to me anyone can ride there and maybe we can learn something too.

I see what you're saying Robbie, we all like to show off, someone might be able to pull a F16 off and someone else only a simple jibe, the thing is that we are all stoked the same way.

So to me no rules it's better, only few safety tips for the non-locals

these rules are not written in stone more of a gentleman's agreement.

I to like that we are lawless with kiteboarding in the Bahamas.
does evry1 understand right of way starboard?
I think that goslow is such a rad spot and it's so small that we need to look after it.
anyways it's up for debate.

I understand that everyone has a right to enjoy the water. But That bay is a small spot as soon as you have 3-4 ppl its crowded dont even talk about six. But aside from the trick aspect the ppl coming in to jibe are usually nervous ppl and are to tentative when in close with other kiters in the bay. Many a time have i seen newbies/intermediate riders tangle their kites with others because of indecision when in close there. Peter tangled with shuman, Steve tangled with mark. It is only a matter of time before something like that leads to injury. Thats also why i think certain ppl should stay out of the bay, becauses they panic when someone is near them, and dont know what to do, and usually those are the none jumpers/trick ppl. Do you allm agree??

Matteo 08-22-2007 06:30 PM

and those people are the ones to stay away from. Usually the more experienced kiters should avoid the beginners not the other way round.

mocean 08-22-2007 08:02 PM

hence starboard

the person leaving the beach has right of way over the incoming kiter.
the person the the starboard side has right of way.
etc we have already talked about right of way.

All I can say is wow.

Absolute beginners have the same rights to the bay as anyone else and who would decide anyway if someone was "good enough" to kite there? You? Me? A committee of elected officials? On the otherhand its common courtesy for any and all of us not to choke the bay by standing in the water with your kite low (especially) getting a lesson, talking with others or taking a dump whatever, forcing others to stay out of the "zone". While everyone has a right to the bay- no one should have a right to dominate the place at the expense of others.

But its a fact that sometimes it will be crowded. If you don't like the crowds, head for the reef- lots of room there.

And I'm shocked to hear talk about locals vs non-locals etc.
Go surfing in Calif. or PR, or windsurfing at Ho'okipa if you want to experience the other side of localism. Its racism's distant cousin.

Finally Starboard over Port, and windwind kite riding kite-high over leward are universally accepted rights of way that have nothing to do with the above.

mocean 08-26-2007 07:21 PM

we are all intitled to our oppinions .

ok so no locals only.
stb rule is in effect as it should always be.

proposl for kite parks

with Bahama development we might be pushed out of goodmans Bay and always have to launch at go-slow..( a few years away from that)
For the last few months of no wind I have been working on a proposal to make blue hill into a kite park and extend go-slow's little peninsula so there might be a beach there and it would increse the flat water area.
with the change of the government,FNM is a good thing for us as kiteboarders because there is a few young blokes there that happen to like kiteboarding and can see th potential in it as a growing sport and a tourist magnet.
if we had the choice to make up rules which ,we might do.
What rules would you make for kiteboarding?
would you like to follow the floridian rules?
if we where given a kite park cleaned up, bluehill had public toilets and showers whould that be rad?
if bluehill all of a sudden was made into a tourist area would you want jetskis there ?
what would you guys like to see?
aj

chrisinbahamas 08-27-2007 05:02 PM

no jetskis at blue hill.it would be hard to teach because the jetskis would be going up and down and those tourist dont kno how to drive jetskis good. but in the shallow water a lote of sand would be going into the intake.... but when you say kitepark, do you meen ramps and rails?

mocean 08-28-2007 07:58 PM

ok sounds good we are getting there.

the last kicker I put up there was made into a cubby house by some of the kids after they broke it apart.
so sliders and kicker will ot last up there, they could be used and then dissmantled and put in storage and brought out when they want to be used again.
the rubish bins I got put there where stolen.
so the bins need to be more secure.
No jetski's expt for rescue craft.

OT
How did the clean up at CH go- did it "take"? I mean is there a permanent change for the better now? I don't expect it to be spotless but are the bins being used?

mocean 08-31-2007 12:46 PM

CH clean up

on the day there where over 120 volenters only 20% where from NPCC the rest where residents from coral harbor.
The beach was about 90% clear they filled up a 40foot dumpster and left bins out there for the beach goers to use.
I thought it was a success .
I have not been out that way since that day,
My guess is it has probably gotten to the point where it has to be another organized beach clean up again .
whats that got to do with goslow?
aj

mocean 09-03-2007 03:17 PM

coral harbor

just to let you guys know , I went to coral harbor today scouting for a new entry into the back near those islands..no luck need a ATV.
and went to the CH launch and it still is clean and looks good.
the bins are being used and there is alot of signs up about taking your rubish home with you and about 6 bins for people to use.

sorry guys I did not reply earlier but I was in the middle of moving (what a pain !) so no phone and no internet for a while !!

If I could really choose I would like to have a bigger bay at Go-slow but I don't think it would be an easy job so who's gonna put the money to do it ? As far as BH is concerned, I'd like to see a much cleaner beach, maybe also extended by a few yards on the Western side, a decent parking lot and even a small convenient store would be nice. On the water we could have few kickers and sliders but I would not make them removable (too much of a hassle).

In terms of rules: I'd like to see safety leash on every single rider, no riding close to shore when other people are bathing and no beginners close to shore.

mocean 09-04-2007 07:52 AM

cool

Thanks for your input matteo.
in the next few years we are going to see Bahamar Take over goodmans bay beach,it will most probably be like club med beach ..no access to locals, more buoys .
in my proposal I am asking the government to extend go slow and make it into a kite specific area to help the growing sport of kiteboarding and to attract more visiting kiteboarders..it's not that hard to extend goslow a few big bolders and old conch shells , a eco impact report . permision
Roby myers crew could do it in a day.
anyways when I Finnish my first draft I would like to have a meeting with you guys so we can go over it.
