West wind???

I will be in miami on tuesday, 2/3.
If there is west, northwest wind what is the best spot to ride?
I would be willing to drive to islamorada if that's the only option.

Thanks,
jakester

If it is westerly on Tuesday, it is way too far off at this point to say whether it will be or not reliably btw, your best bet would be to take a sea taxi out to the Miami Flats. You could drive to Islamorada where if you're lucky you might hook up with a boat to Florida Bay, west of the Keys. Otherwise you might grab a boat eastward to the sandbar. The sandbar still has some wind shadow from land effects in west winds. West is a poor direction for shoreside launch in SE Florida in general. Boat accessible launches in Biscayne Bay and the Keys can work out better. True west can be sideshore in Key West but wind hangs in the west as a rule for a limited amount of time before clocking NW to N, or offshore there.

Thanks for the info, rick.

As long as it would take you to ride to the keys you could be in Tiger Tail Beach (Marco Island) or Naples in the same or less amount of time. West and NW are ideal for those spots.

True, but it is cooler on that coast and Tiger Tail is under threat of banning. Too many indifferent out of town visitors have visited the Park over the years. People seem to love flat water, you won't find much of that off Naples. There is a very small part of the sheltered lagoon at Tiger Tail still accessible to us. You will find all you need on the flats of Miami and without much wind shadow that many miles offshore. The Keys are a longer drive to be sure and you will still likely need a boat to deal with west winds.

Im about to hit the Juno/Jupiter neck of the woods on Saturday for the first time. Most likely up or down the beach about 1/2 mile from the invasion or at Jupiter Civic Center.

I love flat water. I love to jump in flat water. I expect to get my ass kicked in the Jupiter surf. If anybody finds my board, my kite or me in general floating on the beach just PM this username and someone will know what to do:D
