Sat, Sun , Mon

Am I hallucinating ?

Or does it seem to other people as well that we are getting some epic W / NW winds this coming sat. , sun. and mon.?

Tony 04-07-2008 06:29 PM

Lets cross our fingers...........so hard to forecast 5 days out. Accuweather is showing wind. The site below is the most accurate I have used. If it shows anything above 12 - it is rideable and rarely is wrong. It just is not accurate on the high end - meaning it may say 17MPH but it is blowing 20 plus. It is good for 3 days out:

Ya'll had to go and jinx it didn't you............ I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hey Big R, riefer is not suppose to make you halucinate. Maybe you should give me some of that for scientific testing. Prolly about a Lb should do fine. Always in the name of science.

BigR 04-08-2008 04:51 PM

ACkkkkkkkkk!

I might not be hallucinating after all

southwest.....?

Can u ride EB on a SW...?
With everything so crowded not sure where to go....for saturday

bryanleighty 04-10-2008 07:35 AM

Backside is good for a SW.. get out to the flats are you are golden.

there are lots of places on the Gulf side as well.. just need to be extra cautious of beach goers.. I like to park and rig at the most norther point of pass-a-grille.. the area between PAG and the pink hotel.. usually very sparse of people..

Not sure it's gonna blow at all on sat.

seems to have shifted to NW on sun., mon. and tues.

but to answer your question, yes SW is doable at eb. Just gotta go way to the very end of eb away from the gusty winds

bryanleighty 04-10-2008 09:07 AM

Chris M will tell ya about how those winds get when its got a little west in it and coming over the trees..

i was out a ways riding last week and see some guy getting lofted near those trees w/ a bow kite and it took a few people to save him from smashing into a car.

i was thinking "what a kook! who gets lofted with a bow?!?!?.. must be another one of those new riders getting ready to ruin it for everyone.."

Very much to my surprise it was Chris (a seasoned rider if you dont know him) and it serves as a very real reminder that unexpected stuff can and will happen to everyone.. seasoned riders, bow kiters, etc.

definitely use caution when kiting at EB with western winds of any sort.. park closer to the turnabout and keep away from the west tree line..

if it really swings SW you will have to get out past the break to get solid wind.

i still prefer backside on SW

Skyway Scott 04-10-2008 09:13 AM

Once it goes SW, EB sucks, especially when launching and landing.
It was still SSW when that happened to Chris last weekend, but his kite was about as far SW as you can get at EB and behind a wind shadow from the mangroves when he launched.

Big Beach becomes great on a SW.

The parking at PaG on a weekend after 11am is going to be pretty close to impossible. Prepare to drive around in circles for a half hour waiting for a spot to open. I have noticed it is absolutely packed at the beaches this year. PaG has pretty limited parking (a lot of our beaches max the parking).

didnt think anyone else was crazy enough to ride NW winds at night....
where are you thinking raul...

Skyway Scott 04-10-2008 10:06 AM

Can someone hop on http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...1dc4fcb4cd7db3

and see if it's showing a satellite image or just a bunch of ? images in the satellite images place.
The "terrain" and "map" choices work fine.

I am working with Google maps right now on Wiki and they all took a crap.
Curious if it's just me. Thanks.

inferno 04-10-2008 10:09 AM

looks good to me...
and stop hijacking threads....
:)

BigR 04-10-2008 10:19 AM

Means that it'll be building towards gale force by late afternoon depending on the speed of that front

C. Moore 04-10-2008 10:26 AM

Seasoned rider = Old guy with kite. :)

Yep I should have looked at the wind better. It switched by the time I came back from Subway.. I thought the wind had just dropped off a bit. My ass still hurts. ;)

Skyway Scott 04-10-2008 10:37 AM

Chris, is there a way I could edit your map a little?
If so, how? Thanks. A direct link and map key (api) could help me to embed it, if possible :)

Alex 04-10-2008 10:38 AM

Hey Scott, don't you think Sat. looks similar to one of those old EB days where everyone rigs a 16 and by 2:00 everyone is on 10's, then it switches to the sw later in the afternoon.

C. Moore 04-10-2008 10:45 AM

Scott,

Let me see how I can have you edit it. I will pm you soon.

Skyway Scott 04-10-2008 10:45 AM

Alex, I never look more than 3 hours ahead (or 2 days back) :)
Could be though. You gonna come in and visit? I was wondering where you were this past weekend. It was really good. I am hurt pretty good and can't do much, but it was still fun riding around.

Thanks Chris. I don't want to reinvent the wheel. You did a good job on that map. I just want to change a few things on it and if possible, embed it. :)

C. Moore 04-10-2008 11:00 AM

Its easy to embed the map. Let me know if you need help. I embeded the map for the tbkm.org site. http://www.tbkm.org/location.htm

Skyway Scott 04-10-2008 11:21 AM

Yeah, I have a bunch embedded on the wiki. http://www.tbka.org/TBKAWiki/index.p...Local_Launches

My understanding (might be wrong) is that each URL has a specific api key (which you no doubt got from google maps). I am not sure that your map will work on the wiki site, (on purpose to prevent intellectual theft). That's the whole idea of the key, right? If you can figure a way to use your map on the TBKA site, that'd be good :) I sent you pm's and stuff. Thanks

Kev 04-11-2008 07:29 AM

BigR 04-11-2008 07:46 AM

naw, you're looking at the tampa bay marine forecast which they always dilute way down. They also have the gulf forecasts broken down to inshore and offshore which are usually way more accurate. I don't really want a gale anyways:

TARPON SPRINGS TO SUWANNEE RIVER OUT 20 TO 60 NM-
ENGLEWOOD TO TARPON SPRINGS OUT 20 TO 60 NM-
BONITA BEACH TO ENGLEWOOD OUT 20 TO 60 NM-

SUNDAY
NORTH WINDS 15 TO 20 KNOTS. SEAS 3 TO 5 FEET. A SLIGHT
CHANCE OF SHOWERS.

SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY
NORTHWEST WINDS AROUND 20 KNOTS.
SEAS 5 TO 7 FEET.

MONDAY NIGHT
NORTHWEST WINDS 20 TO 25 KNOTS...BECOMING NORTH
SEAS 5 TO 7 FEET.

TUESDAY
NORTH WINDS 15 TO 20 KNOTS. SEAS 5 TO 7 FEET.

Why not, id rather have solid 35 then 20 anyday of the week.....

who wouldnt want to boost 25+ on every jump while flying a 7m .....

thats what kiting all about, for me atleast :D

toby wilson 04-11-2008 09:39 AM

Yep, it is fun when I can still ride my 12m in 35 while you are all on 7's!!! There is always that one hero who comes over to my "rescue" and tells me that it is "too much" for me to ride my 12M in that kind of wind...always a good laugh!! And the jumps on that thing in 35 are nice and high!!!

Either way it is good for me...light winds - Kathryn can take lessons and fly the trainer kite...high winds - I get to ride!!!

Paedda 04-12-2008 10:08 AM

Can anyone confirm wind?

Hey guys,

Can anyone confirm wind! I am thinking coming down from Orlando!

Thanks,

Peter

Skyway Scott 04-12-2008 06:03 PM

It looks like a reasonable chance of wind. No guarantees of anything starting about this time of year.
