While I'm on here:

Tampa Bay Kitemaster III

Where's the pre-party and whos driving me home?

Danimal8199 09-12-2007 09:41 AM

Kitemasters III

Woodson makes an important point, where is the pre/after party...I mean

Any news on the next kitemasters race?

C. Moore 09-12-2007 10:24 AM

Jayson and I are still going over details. We should know something soon.

C. Moore 09-12-2007 11:19 AM

This is something we are considering for the next kite masters.

Steve-O 09-12-2007 12:08 PM

My wife got me a Forerunner 301 GPS for the wrist last father's day. Still haven't had a chance to use it yet. Looking forward to seeing how fast I do go or want to try and go.

Would still love to do a downwinder.

inferno 09-12-2007 12:18 PM

down winder... whats that??? its been so long :(

maybe TD #8 will remind me.....

<jason 09-12-2007 01:42 PM

What would the qualifications be (as far as riding skill) for entering the race?

inferno 09-12-2007 01:45 PM

technically i dont think there are any qualifications....

but you our responsible for what evey happens out there....

bryanleighty 09-12-2007 04:31 PM

Jayson put this together last year..

http://www.fksa.org/showthread.php?t=2562

i chose a bad board last year and had to pull out of the race early.. i thought it would handle the waves better than my TT.. but i was very very wrong and ended up not able to make upwind progress ...

ugh.

BigR 09-12-2007 05:30 PM

what bord waz dat?

popeye 09-12-2007 07:09 PM

looks like a hydrofoil... so we are going to have speed races? That would be cool. I have actually been planning a hydrofoil myself... I have the mig welder and the vacuum table right here :)

stormatzio 09-12-2007 08:19 PM

I cleared my travel schedule for November.

I missed last years race. I was home all month except for day of the race. Not this year. Bring on a NorthWest wind!!!!!! At least I made the pre-party.

twas an ancient long SS board.. thought it would cruise the surf with ease and fly upwind... but the wind was so onshore and so powerful that I was unable to make upwind headway.. my fault for not putting it to a real test prior to the race. i was seriously bummed. was so stoked for the race.. blah..

oh well..

next time.

toby wilson 09-14-2007 08:15 AM

The race...

Speed trials are great and all and seem to be the latest fad but I agree with Steve-O, the Kitemasters race started as a downwinder and it would be a shame to see it turn into an entirely different beast.

I believe the majority of the locals would probably like to see another downwind race...because that is what the Kitemasters race is all about and would be the most fun for most of us to enter...not even to try and win but to try and push ourselves and gain a sense of accomplishment. God knows the Caladesi Queen wants another crack at it!!!

Also, who (in the way of spectators) wants to see a bunch of kiters get clocked by a wave runner one by one? 50-100 kites all taking off from the beach at once is quite a sight on the other hand...

C. Moore 09-14-2007 08:27 AM

The first Kitmasters Race had 2 parts to it.

Border Cross held in 40 - 50 mph winds. Truely one insane competition
Downwinder: Gandy to the Skyway, this was a great run for all who entered.

No reason why we can't put together another 2 part Kite Masters Race.

shogun1204 09-14-2007 08:31 AM

Downwinder!!!

Well I hope its a downwinder! I was so bummed not to race last year, and really looking foward to racing this year!

Alex 09-14-2007 09:46 AM

roy

too bad u r slow....

shogun1204 09-14-2007 09:49 AM

Alex!!!!!

SLOW!!! Thats the only way to ride! This way the ladies can check out my guns while I am riding! OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!

amber 09-14-2007 09:49 AM

I know that Matt and Triton hosted more than one event for their collegiate competition. He's probably a good resource to help with planning of multiple events.

I won't be doing the downwinder but i will be trying to get helicopters to cover it on the news because that was so cool last year to see everyone from a birds eye view.

steve-0 you self rescuing this year if you run into complications? ;)

Downwinder and Speed Trials should make the majority of this kiting community satisfied

Yeah I rode that bordercross ... in the gulf gusting between 40-50. I was on a 9m C kite. Without bayflite holding me down and burrying my legs I couldn't even hold down the kite. It was sick.

Yeah I remember that day. A lot of people took off and never made it around the first buoy. It took Brian Eagle an hour to set 1 buoy. That was a sick Border Cross.

bryanleighty 09-14-2007 01:14 PM

that was a pretty sick day.. trent was riding his 2m trainer kite..

that local pro photographer got a lot of shots from that day.

BigR 09-14-2007 01:22 PM

too bad we don't have his pics anymore

bryanleighty 09-14-2007 01:35 PM

I agree Mr. Moore, just want to make sure I'll have another chance at tackling the DW!!! LOL!!!

Let me know if I can help.

;)

shogun1204 09-14-2007 03:27 PM

Help

Would love to help but not much I can do from up here in PC. IF you guys need some website hosting I have some free credits with Godaddy.com, might be able to help you with that!

bayflite 09-14-2007 07:20 PM

a buddy & i wuz brainstorming and eggmont key came up.
the ferry runs 2wice a day!

stormatzio 09-14-2007 11:49 PM

Too many sharks off of Eggmont........

Bayflight, Eggmont would be cool but way too many sharks out there in the channel. I know people ride from NB to Eggmont when the wind is right and I'm dumb enough to race to it. I guess if you started up North and ended at Eggmont, that would work. My boat holds 6 plus gear for the ride back, if I can convince my girlfriend to drive.

BigR 09-15-2007 05:02 AM

Who's Afraid of a Little 'Ole SHARK!

I've gone out to eggmont and back B4 ( on a big windsurfer ) on NW winds from NB. Also done recon with the boat around the island alot. Bottom line is that it won't work. West side is totally unlaunchable/landable, and east side U R restricted to a small patch of sand on the north side since the rest of the island is quarantined by rangers.

Basically the only place you could even be allowed would B the NE corner of the island where the ferry goes and it would have to Bee a N, NE or E wind
with a alot of coordination launching/landing kites

The South corner would B cool since its a big sand bar but its off limits

bayflite 09-15-2007 07:23 AM

how bout shell island?
big r...r u sure the west coast (egmont)iz a no go?

BigR 09-15-2007 08:12 AM

positive, unless U like launching and landing on old forts circa 1500 ad with zero shoreline

RKITEKT 09-15-2007 10:22 AM

Lets Race!!!

Count me in on the KITEMASTERS RACE! I wanna do the Bahama Race too! Lets get something organized for both! My brother has offered his boat for rescue if I get into either races. I AM SO STOKED!!! JUST GOT MY CRAZYFLY Proline, SMALL/FAST BOARD. I rode it the first time last week! FAST AS ALL HELL!!!

LETS RACE!!!

Great memories, what the sport is all about...

I remember being a noob, having the pleasure of meeting Neil Hutchinson, one of the coolest guys in the sport that day and standing on the beach freezing my a$$ off and thinking to myself..."I sure hope this sport is all these guys say it is once I am up and riding because if I am cold, they must be completely freezing in the water!!!" LOL...then helping to launch and land kites. It truly was a great day. Thanks for the memories Tom...
