FIRST LOOK - II09 Saturday & Sunday

What a fun day! Thank you all who helped make this happen! We had great wind, incredible riding and good times on the beach.

I didn't have a chance to take any pictures, but I'm sure there were lots taken. Maybe you all could put some up.

Today we ran course racing: men's and women's, and freestyle. There were some dramatic heats and fantastic finishes...more to come.

ricki 03-07-2009 10:06 PM

Thanks to Brad, Ray, all the troops, sponsors and RIDERS! What a great day. Here are just a few shots of the action, tons more great images have yet to be looked at and processed. Stay tuned for that.

Excellent caliber of riding

Ken scoping out the bridge for a jump? Not.

Haven't even put in hardly anything from the am course race yet. Lots more to come.

ricki 03-08-2009 08:25 AM

Here's a few more from yesterday, there are so many more interesting actions shots.

Sean moves, prepare for boarders!

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album383/Billy_up.jpg
Billy passes, the sailboat is a great backdrop and uh prop, if you tangle with it. One guy did, kite only, photos to follow

Stay tuned ...

ricki 03-08-2009 10:50 PM

Heading back for a first look at Sunday. There are hundreds of shots of Saturday and Sunday still to be gone through, more to come on this. First starting out on the equipment. None of these folks are wearing helmets sad to say. Ken with Jimmy Lewis was, must want to stick around for that great kid of his. Something to think about, while you still can.

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album384/...s_IMG_6199.jpg
Understand this was Melissa's first time going off a kicker

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album384/Billy.jpg
Billy passes off the Egypt Pyramid or Temple of Doom, something like that, while Hunter rolls video of the action

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album384/andy_up.jpg
Andy passes off the kicker as Damo rides back upwind

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album384/jon_n_mike.jpg
Jon ramps up as Mike watches

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album384/Billy_slides.jpg
Billy slides as Jon works back. That is Holiday Isle in the back, actually a substantial distance away, no where near as close as it looks

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album384/Start.jpg
The guys came up with the idea for a dead downwind race with some tacking points to round along the way starting at the sand bar. They're waiting for the start here.

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album384/race.jpg
They're off!

More on the way!

Big Ups to Brad for resurrecting the Islamorada Invitational.
It's a great event that attracts good vibes, top riders, and wind as usual.
JimmyLewis.com sponsored the first place prize for the Amateur Mens Freestyle event. Sean Reyngoudt stomped an incredible final heat to win a JL Model 3 board. (see attached photo)

Thanks to Seven Sports for allowing us to set up a demo station and for carrying the entire JL line of Kite and SUP Boards. We had a great time and will be back soon. I always forget how close Islamorada is to Miami.

-Ken

Thousands, was stuck in Miami on business all day yesterday. Should put up a bunch more today. How are things going down there?

b-rad 03-10-2009 11:05 AM

well, it's light...even had to cancel lessons yesterday afternoon...but everyone is so worn out after the weekend that nobody really minds!

We are watching the weather and planning for the weekend; I'll keep in touch!

thierrydehove 03-10-2009 12:16 PM

Starting in reverse, well maybe. Anyway, day II came out of the soup first so here you go. The event has continued this week and should go through the coming weekend.

For now, here's (part of) Sunday ...

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album384/riding.jpg

Let's go hit the equipment. Very few of the riders to almost none were in helmets. Sad thing, nothing that I recommend either. Despite that I didn't want to suppress the photos, this time, or Photoshop everyone's head off, etc.. Next time someone well known gets badly injured or killed, folks will likely rethink how they approach this sort of thing. Sad that it takes that sort of tragic event to bring focus on easy, obvious precautions. Anyway on to the shots ...

Rick, I feel bad with my poor pix... we did an amazing job and always been in right place and moment ;-)
Really Good job, I have to learn a lot from you

Your shots are excellent and by a pro too. I shoot for fun mostly. It is good when things come together though. High praise and thanks but I probably could learn a great deal more from yourself!

what is the next event in Florida because I am going to Hawaii the 29th and I would like to meet you again before....

Good idea, there are often more angles that could be covered than feasible during the action from a single perspective. There are a few things going on this weekend, perhaps a downwinder in Miami-Dade, a Cabrinha board demo at the Cable Park and maybe a downwinder up north ideally if the question of the nearby AFB is resolved. Let's stay in touch. What islands are you hitting in Hawaii? Sounds like a blast.

thierrydehove 03-17-2009 06:56 PM

I am available this week end.. Please let me know.
might go to Jupiter thursday ;-) to play with waves...

ricki 03-18-2009 06:59 PM

Leaning towards heading up for the Cocoa to Vero Race. Was set up to get into Hillsboro Lighthouse on Saturday to grab some shots. You can only do it a few times per year. Missed it for decades what's a few more months? Have you thought about heading up?

thierrydehove 03-18-2009 07:02 PM

to Cocoa ????

ricki 03-18-2009 07:31 PM

Yes, for ...

http://fksa.org/showthread.php?t=8000

Still on the fence whether to ride in it or not. Wouldn't have considered it less than a month ago, now, not sure.

thierrydehove 03-19-2009 07:33 AM

doesn't look really windy for this coming week end ;-(

ricki 03-19-2009 07:38 AM

NE 20 to 25 kts. on Saturday off Cocoa. System starts on Friday, should be some nice waves to go with.

thierrydehove 03-19-2009 08:11 AM

it's a long way to get this spot..
not sure for one day..

I hear you, then again, there could be some excellent images to capture. How about this? Shoot the race in the AM on the Space Coast, grab some riding time in the waves and wind, shoot Hillsboro Lighthouse in the afternoon and wrap up with Daniela Mercury at Brazil On The Beach in Hollywood in the PM? Will shoot some capoeira if things work out time wise too. http://fksa.org/showthread.php?t=228...light=capoeira Love the music and moves!

thierrydehove 03-19-2009 07:12 PM

what is the timing Saturday morning ?
Thanks, T.
