FLORIDA GUIDE - NE Coast, Melbourne Area

Melbourne Area

a. AJ's Slick (which is located on the intracoastal water way on US1, 8 miles south of Downtown Melbourne, Fl.)... to pull up a map, I would Suggest using Valkaria Road as a reference, and then just locating the spot at the end of Valkaria Road, but a bit south of that on the river, there is no direct reference point.) PRECAUTIONS: Advanced or PRO level riding ONLY. Kiteboarding is done on Private Property. There are no amenities. Bring your own water. Conditions: Sandy beach, sandy bottom, shallow water, waist deep. Wind Directions: Good from North all the way to South, NO kiteboarding on anything WESTERLY.

b. Crack Park (which is two redlights south on US1, off of 192, from downtown Melbourne, Fl. ) This is actually called "scurrah's landing", not sure if that's still valid. This is for beginners to pro-level, it does get VERY crowded with locals and beginners, and space is VERY limited as far as launching and parking. Amenities: fresh water and restrooms up at the gazebo on top of the hill. At this location, winds are good mainly from the south-south east, but you can kite easterly winds if you prefer.

c. Melbourne Causeway. (its pretty easy to find, its the 192 causeway, on the west side, over the river to beachside Indialantic) Mainly for North, Northwest Winds ONLY. You ride on the South side of the causeway. There is a grassy rigging area, no amenities such as water, etc. Its mainly for people who can stay upwind. It offers very smooth and glassy water.

d. Fifth Avenue Beach. This is the ocean location. This is for Ocean Riding only. It is great when the wind is out of the North, Northeast, Southeast, and South. Most of the locals do 10 mile downwinders. This can be done with Intermediate to Pro-level riders. Amenities: there are numerous amenities along the beach, it just depends upon where you are. Most are parks and have the required park amenities.

e. Sebastian Inlet. This is for Intermediate to Pro-level kiters. There is a tide change, and is only for WESTERLY winds (being, Southwest, West, or Northwest) It is a state park, with an entry FEE of 5 $. The launching area is at the West end of the peninsula There are sandbars you can get behind for smoother, shallow water.

2. Notable hotels, restaurants for visiting riders.

There are a lot of the major hotels, but we suggest looking and checking out hotels thur www.easybreezytravel.com as they have the major hotels in the area readily available thur their online travel booking agency.

Restaurants: RJ's Pub, LongDoggers, DaKine Diego, ChartHouse, Ruby Tuesdays. It totally depends on your Taste, but WE recommend RJ's in GRANT, FL.

3. Regular kiteboarding events. Kitetricity Kiteboarding has their annual KITEBASH in MARCH of every year, and are working on possibly hosting some other events during the year. Check out www.kitetricity.com for updates.

4. What makes kitesurfing in your area different from the rest of the state
(e.g. periods of great waves, wind, flat water, great local crew, natural
beauty, nightspots, lots of people, few people, etc.)
We offer EVERY possible direction of Wind for Kiteboarding, and EVERY accommodation out there possible. There is no other place that can offer this in Central Fla.

5. Some hi res images of your riding areas and kiters going off in good
conditions.
Please find an additional email with photos headed your way tonight.

Thanks..
