east beach
Does east beach work on a due north wind? It is not listed as a direction on the Launch descpiption on the kiteboarding website, but Im not sure why??

North wind at East Beach is usually poor in quality, due to the land effect and wind shadowing. It can be done, however the wind can be unpredictable and more often than not gusty. North is a tough direction to ride here if you are looking for flat water. One of the best places to ride a north wind in the county is Indian Rocks Beach and if you have access to a boat check out the area north of Honeymoon Island known as Three Rooker. |
South skyway is also good in a North or North West at extreme low tides. If it's not low tide there is nowhere to launch.

If you go to South Skyway, wear booties. Period.
Freddy Krueger lives in that water and will chop the soles of your feet to shreds otherwise. If you like your ass to remain laceration-free, a seat harness is not a bad idea either. |
Regarding South Skyway..
straight out from the rest room.. where on low tide the wave are breaking.. did i spy some seriously large ROCKS in the shallows???? i was cruising in the breaks and saw some big black submerged spots.. thought i should get the F**K outta there and head out and over to the flatter/deeper water. |

Well there are plenty of rocks by the skyway hwy area and also a little rock groin that extends outwards a small bit, But you would have to get real close to the traffic / road :shock:
Hence, I wonder what you really saw since there are really no large rocks there just sand. There is a huge engine block somebody dumped in the water a while back but it is way upwind of where you were sailing |
is the small launching area (that you need to walk to when the tide is high) large enough for a self land?
i'd think on a nice strong N , NNW or NW that would be a great flat water area to ride.. |
