kiteloops!

not sure the guys names out at EB on Tuesday riding the switchblades.. but them's some great looking kiteloops!!!..

there's a few more people every time I go out that are pushing the levels around here to new heights..

here's a quick video of Len10.. raw footage, unedited, no added sound.. still absolutely mind boggling how he can pull this off this consistently..

Balls of steel and a baconator.

I prefer the furminator.

again.... the level of skill is taking leaps and bounds .. a lot of tricks being thrown at EB yesterday.. Scott hitting huge unhooked rolls.. bunch of guys hitting kiteloops easily in the 15 foot range.. a large number of female riders kicking ass..

but we all have to admit that getting to watch Jay go off all afternoon was pretty freakin epic. powered downloop to flat 360! sick sick sick. f-16s to blind! guy can kiteloop/transition like no other..

Skyway Scott 02-07-2008 10:28 AM

Yeah Jay and others looked great. I have been sick all week so I was mainly just mowing the lawn. Thx for the props, though.

I was just thinking yesterday that soon we will reach critical mass here with the new riders and talent, and that St. Pete has the capability of pumping out some serious talent with some younger riders in the near future. (U.S. wise anyway... I think it's unlikely any city will match some talent coming out of DR, Europe, etc.)

Billy is pretty open to sharing ideas as are Matt, Mike etc. So, it's not rocket science, the new kids should benefit and get good :).
When I played racquetball, 5 of the top ten players all come out of one small club in Daytona. It was because they all pushed each other hard. It's one reason I moved there for a couple years, too.
I think this will happen locally, although I plan on watching it, not participating at my age :( (oh well).

bryanleighty 02-07-2008 11:40 AM

ya .. i'll take my place in the observation deck as well..

my attempt at a kiteloop backroll yesterday afternoon met with failure and today it feels like I got a swift kung-fu kick to the ribs.. ugh.

kite-4-life 02-07-2008 08:31 PM

I hear ya on that guys, I am packing a pinched nerve in my back and my discs are demolished. At this point , I am shuffling around like an 80 year old man- I guess all my years of crashin' and burnin' (on land) has finally caught up with me, so its time to mow the lawn for a while. Its awesome to see everyone progressing so quickly, just remember to keep it away from the beach,(distance is your friend,) especially when looping/crashing/burning.
Stretching out before and after a session is very important and will extend your kiting lifespan.
Helmets and vests are always a good idea, cuz broken ribs and concussions kinda hurt.
See yall on the water.

kiteloops are all about commitment, just fully commit and there not very hard..

doing them in 40 knots is a little more though.. in butter easy to land though..

we should see alot of people come out of st pete.. hopefully me soon.

along with alex.

and the other young ones are learning very quick.

Tom Stock 02-08-2008 02:56 PM

And of course hooked or unhooked... unhooked you will get the bar ripped from your hands before you get drilled toooo bad... but hooked well... the sky is the limit... you can throw it around hard in 40 off a wave and pull a ruben.

You won't fully realize what you've done until it's too late and your life flashes before your eyes on the way down :D

kite-4-life 02-11-2008 09:40 AM

You guys can keep your kiteloops and wakestyle trix, here's a sick video of the forgotten art of hooked in riding:

Boardoffs are very fun, but painful if you hit the board on re-entry.
The water walk is just plain badass...

the day of kiteloops

Kite-4-Life,

Yesterday was the day of kiteloops out at Anclote. It seems like everyone was at least trying them! Good to see us pushing each other out on the island.

As for the board offs, I am trying to land the "backfoot" out and back in and I have tried it a few times with almost 90% accuracy, meaning i'm close but not quite. You should see my shin on the leg I take out. It is battered!

thats why i have only tried 4 or 5 cause everytime I try I have to wait 2 weeks for my shin to heal!

kite-4-life 02-11-2008 10:28 AM

Grabbing the tail with your back hand is the easiest to get your foot back in-because you don't have to bend down as much. Work on throwing your foot down towards the water first, they try throwing it forward in the direction of travel for more style points. Learn to ride with footstraps looser than normal and its also easier to land.
Mixing it with a backroll is fun too, but I have to switch my back hand to front side on the bar (on the way up) to redirect the kite- port tack is left(front) foot out. Kinda goofy looking, but sure is fun!
Boardoffs are much harder with a wetsuit on for sure, probably harder with a seat harness, too. I wear a seat harness and cant bend in the middle to grab the handle.... maybe I'm just getting fat and old
As soon as I can touch my toes again, I will be trying that spinning boardoff. My previous attempts have resulted in a yardsale every time...:(
