6. Another rescue in Oz, the 2nd one for one of the riders!

Rick you will be pleased to know we had another rescue, this time involving myself, another kiter, and a surfer here in Merimbula.

The other kiter involved was the same guy who rescued two people on Christmas Day here in town.

This time our heroes efforts did not involve the use of his kite.

Friday 18 February last. An older woman had been swept out along the rocks. I was kiting and had no idea until someone came waving at me on the beach.

I kited down. The other kiter, whose pumping had been interrupted, (sorry arcusers) had run down with his surfboard. He and another surfer had jumped in, put the old bird on the surfboard and were swimming her in against the rip.

They were too close to the rocks for me to get in close with a kite. Best part of twenty knots nor east wind I had a 13 up. I stood by.

As they got in closer it became apparent that they were buggered when the kiter yelled at me to come and fuking help.

I shot in, dropped my kite and swam out to help them drag her in the last bit. They were shot ducks on the beach.

The old bird was very thankful. She was pretty heavy and quite old, maybe 70s, so I figured that she would not have been able to hold on for the body drag of her life back in anyway.
