Free Stuff....

While cleaning out the garage today I came across several items that I will never use. I would like these items to go to someone who is new to the sport and taking lessons from an instructor. Some of these items need to be gone over by someone who is familiar with some of the older gear and who better than instructor or experienced rider.

(1) 15m GK Lift c-kite, I think its an 04. Been repaired flies good, has bag no bar.

(1) Pyro 05 XL waist harness, has surefire spreader w/leash

(1) Complete set of Machine 17.5m struts

(1) Machine 17.5 leading edge

(4) Slingshot bars, all have 4 lines and 1 has 5th line.

If your interested in any of these items, just get in touch with me and I'll hang on to them until I see you.

Thanks,
Big G

YO! Gary

See my email.

I'll take anything you want to donate, especially that surefire spreader bar, its great for students. I am also collecting up old gear and kites for some projects in the works, even busted boards.

JoshTaylor 08-04-2008 07:08 AM

That Surefire spreader bar is dangerous IMO

Big G 08-04-2008 07:48 AM

Machine 17.5 Leading edge (GONE)

Kiteboarding Tampa Bay 08-04-2008 08:28 AM

Wow, dangerous, huh? Thanks for the heads up dude!Maybe I will switch to the Levi's Harness (CL thru the belt) like I saw on East Beach last year. Thats a lot cheaper anyway...

I was thinking of using a double board leash too, one on each end of the board using braided Q-Line (that suff is strong!). I sewed 2 ankle straps together so it fits neatly around my neck, its totally stylin' bro!
Board shorts are dangerous too, might get tangled up on something- I'm switchin' to Speedos...We also have a new policy at KTB- Bring your own kite to the lesson. I am really, really tired of these newbs crashing up my gear and tangling my lines. I had to turn a guy down the other day that thought he would be flying my stuff- I said "Get your own stuff, newbie. You ain't touchin' my kite unless you plan on buyin' it first." The guy didn't even have a belt on and wanted to use one of MY harnesses- Geez.... These guys have some nerve, don't they?

(BTW, I'll let you know when my surefire breaks, 4 years and counting.)

kitekristrudo 08-04-2008 08:45 AM

Wow glad I didn't take my lessons from you. You want a free harness so you can make some money teaching with it and then poke fun at riders (who are better than you), giving there experiences with it. You sound like a real piece of work.

i was thinking of bashing josh... but to his credit he did include "IMO" after his statement... props to joshie... :)

on to a better subject.. whos up to night ride??????

Don't you need wind for that?????

Umm, kristurdo, that was called humor...
Something that was once a part of kiteboarding that is missed by many... kinda like whitecaps.....;)You see, a big part of kiteboarding is having fun with your friends, but its kind of a lost art these days.
Its an election year ya know...
Try this one:
Josh has nothing on me- those unhooked tricks are for wussies who want to let go of the bar if they fall. Not me dude, I use a combination lock to hook in, and just ride it out. Besides, my backroll has style, brah.
(Thats all you need to impress the chicks on the beach anyway, so why learn anything else?)
How could he be better than me? The guy flies yellow kites- how girly-man is that?
That Big G guy giving stuff away for free?
He must be up to something....
Gotta run!- My book club's selection of the month just arrived: "Jokes for the Laughing Impaired"

Disclaimer:
(Big G and Josh are good friends of mine.) They wouldn't expect anything less from me than a swift ball busting on a windless day like this.
Welcome to the neighborhood, Kris.;)

JoshTaylor 08-04-2008 11:34 AM

no worries..

i've had problems with that spreader bar, so i figure i'd give a heads up.

also cost me a brand new kite.

toby wilson 08-04-2008 11:58 AM

The yellow girly-man one Josh?

And Big G, that was Mexico Erick disguised as newbie McLovin...don't let him fool you into giving him free gear!!!

Kiteboarding Tampa Bay 08-04-2008 01:12 PM

I have heard about plenty of them breaking, but mine hasnt failed yet. If it does, it will go to the leash anyway.

It's 3 gusting to 5 now.
I'm stoked

Skyway Scott 08-04-2008 01:17 PM

I actually twisted the "neck" on two of those way back when they first came out.
When that happens, it no longer releases. Considering we didn't have QRs on the C loops then, that wasn't a good situation.
I think it happened because we tended to ride overpowered back then, and didn't have much depower available.

Big G 08-04-2008 06:38 PM

Everything has been claimed accept for the older C kite and I forgot to list my original 2m Airtime trainer.

Steve, I'll get you the bars and harness. I think one of the SS bars was used 1 time.

Thanks for helping me clean out some old gear.

Big G 08-04-2008 06:43 PM

Be glad you didn't take lessons from Steve S aka Stevie B. Here are a few of his past kite graduates and not all of them wanted anything to do with the board.

Great bunch of guys Steve/\

Chalk one up for Big G.....
That was hideous!!!

JoshTaylor 08-05-2008 07:31 PM

no toby, this was like 2 years ago in texas when i rode for Cabrinha.

was riding overpowered on my 12 switchblade and there was big jettys that shoot out a good 50-60 feet that have barnacles all over them. was coming in to turn around and right after i turned around i got super powerd and somehow hit the QR on the spreader bar, and figured ok, i will just let go of the bar and put the hook back in, not realizing how close the jettys were because of the shore break making them harder to see. figures my kite fell right on the jetty and tore my kite to pieces. luckily it blew enough for me to ride my 7 during the comp.

i think the QR is to easy to accidentally hit. which in certain situations can not be good.

to reattach the hook is very hard to do while the bar is in your hand.

and if you accidently hit it while launching or landing, or even standing on the beach, that wouldn't be to good. yeah it would go to your leash, but the kites gotta fall somewhere. especially during the summer with these west winds, having to ride at the crowded beaches during summer, that would not be good at all.

just my two cents.

Rodan'sWings 08-05-2008 07:55 PM

Speaking of harnesses/spreaders. ive got a new Dakine board short harness (has the internal seat harness) i used it once and discovered it is way too big for me. I'd take $35. i think they are size small but would fit size 30-32"

Cheers
Phil

I have 4 computer monitors for free. 3 are 15", one is 17".
All are in good shape.

I also have 3 fish tanks. All very nice. One 45 high, one 55, one 75 gallon.
Nice stands, nice decorative stuff in them.... complete basically. Free.
Just pic them up (I will help load them).
I won't help set them back up.

Sell them yourself if you want, I just need to clear them out. Skemp......

Big G 08-05-2008 08:42 PM

Scott,
The 55 would look good at my office and Skemp, you have the service contract on it. I'll need a stand of course.

Skyway Scott 08-05-2008 10:15 PM

Oh, they have stands and all. They are nice.
It's yours. Just pick it up. :)
