NEW Title - Kiteboarding Champions Of All Florida?

Just got a call from Enrique or Latino on the forum with a good idea. Enrique organized the recent successful Pier to Pier distance race, Naples to Ft. Myers. His idea consisted of tracking say the top ten kiters in each of notable competitions in Florida, like the Pier To Pier Race, 60 mile Jupiter To Ft. Lauderdale Race, Jupiter Kiteboarding Invasion, the upcoming Tampa Bay Kitemasters and other substantial contests that happen this season. I would put the top ten in each of these events into a table posted on this site. A final list of ten (or so) riders would be calculated from the table across all the events. Maybe some sponsors might even toss in some swag. I am fairly certain we could get the "Florida Champion" winners covered in some kiting magazines. We could make this an annual event. Florida seems to be leading the nation in contests right now, certainly warmer here to allow them to occur. Also, sounds like a great reason for a late or just after season party. Could even tie in a photo and video contest of the season's happenings.

What do you think? How about ideas for how to score this considering that we may want to allow for not participating in all the events listed in the table. Or, maybe not, something to consider. Also, what should we call it?

Thanks Enrique, good idea!

Thats a great idea. Let me know how we can help out here at tbkm.org. Where would be a great place to hold the finals? Marco, Keys, Panama City?

There are so many events with some significant differences, we were thinking of having the finals on paper. In effect the top ten in each event, would receive a weighted score for each of those events. Sum them together and see what the resulting leader list looks like or some other calculated basis. This might include distance races, free style, course racing, speed runs, maybe even distance GPS runs (hint Paul) and ??? A final kite-off would be good but in what disciplines, where and who will organize it and late in the season?

Overall Kite Champs for florida

Pretty cool idea to have overall winners categories for Florida and it could escalate to National Championship levels once a schedule is made for the upcoming years events.

Possible categories

1. Freestyle
2. Big Air
3. Course racing- (Upwind/down wind racing)
4. Downwind/Long Distance racing
5. Speed
6. Border cross

For example for course racing and Downwind racing you could weight events by the number of competitors entered so the 07 Jupiter event would carry more points than the Naples to Ft. Meyers race.

any ideas?

Now you're talking, good list of disciplines. Regarding coming up with the weighing factors. Aside from number of competitors, what other things make an event harder or easier? Wind comes to mind, too much or too little. What about having a short tiered scale of weighing factors related to wind range? This could be making things too complicated of course particularly with multiple day events.

p.s. - Hey Gebi, that scooter free diving video that I shot on the drop off that I was telling you about is at: http://fksa.org/showthread.php?t=4615 May give it a go again on Sunday if too much wind doesn't come up
