Friday 21st and Tonight

Looks like possible WNW to NW tomorrow. Maybe not nuking, but 15 or so.
Late this afternoon and tonight looks really possible as well, from the south.

Where would work for a south/southwest night ride?

Whitey 12-20-2007 09:10 AM

Dunedin Causway.

Sean B 12-20-2007 12:43 PM

As long as your outta there by 11:00pm when it closes, I guess. With all the bouys, channel markers, and lack of a launch area at the causeway I wouldn't suggest that location for a good night ride....especially since new riders may heed your advice. It's tough enough to ride there during the day. Honeymoon would be a much better option...

Tom Stock 12-20-2007 01:22 PM

ss u know where

A-Bomb 12-20-2007 09:07 PM

DP at TI

I'm gonna try a DP at TI if anyone's interested. I can only ride till about 8:30 AM.

Skyway Scott 12-20-2007 09:15 PM

You have to leave by then?
Yikes.....

I would like to do a downwinder from John's Pass to "near" the undertow if anyone wants to go.
I will be there around 9 or so with Donna and one or two others.
I will post again in the a.m., but that's the basic plan.

A-Bomb 12-20-2007 09:18 PM

If it's epic, I may have to call in to let 'em know I'm running late.

Skyway Scott 12-20-2007 09:27 PM

Yeah... do that and we can do a DW after you ride a little.
We will be launching just upwind of where you are.

I will probably do a few small DW's as opposed to one huge one.

Skyway Scott 12-20-2007 10:10 PM

The wind just started a little from the south and the front is closing in on us.
I checked doppler and Imightsurf.
It's blowing 50 up in the panhandle.

Sean B 12-21-2007 01:37 AM

Nice...hope tomorrow is as good as they say.

inferno 12-21-2007 03:11 AM

Skyway Scott 12-21-2007 04:23 AM

Weird. I am going back to bed.
Looks like it came through, blew for an hour, and it's over.

A-Bomb 12-21-2007 04:58 AM

So I noticed. ...another forecast gone bad. I guess I'll probably go back to bed too.

Overcast and blowing about 3 mph in sarasota. I woke up to a clear sky, now clouds are back. Bummer

Skyway Scott 12-21-2007 07:57 AM

Yeah. Zero wind, literally.

http://www.weather.com/maps/geograph...dex_large.html

the rain was infront of a small warm front...
the small cold front is just now getting to us.....

Danimal8199 12-21-2007 09:53 AM

BigR 12-21-2007 10:15 AM

ok , I can see its starting now........UNFORTUNATELY, I scheduled my day for a morning ride not an afternoon ride... Grrrrrrrrrrr

Flow 12-21-2007 10:37 AM

where and when

I'm in town for a couple of days, I brought my gear so... if you could hook a non-local up with the "where and when" for today I'd greatly appreciate it. I've been hunting on the weather sites with little to no luck.

Thanks!

Tom Stock 12-21-2007 10:54 AM

Looks like NW, so you have a few options:

1) Any of the beaches, but the best will be either Pass-A-Grille or Indian Rocks. PAG takes debit cards only, and IR is free parking if you find one of the little hidden public parking lots along the west side of the road. Read the signs closely...they look like no parking signs but they actually say between 6PM and 6AM or something like that.

Treasure island will also work and there is free parking and a HUGE beach for self launching (it's kite friendly), but it's not as good on a NW because of the current and slightly blocked beach from a North wind.

2) If you want flat water, you can ride backside skyway. If you are heading south to the skyway, it's the last exit before the skyway (it's the rest area)... follow it around to the right to the West side of the highway. There is a small (very small) launch surrounded by trees. Be careful, there is an oyster island straight out about 300 feet, but other than that it's all soft bottom, and grass flats as far as you can see on the other side of the channel.

Be careful not to end up down wind near the rest area itself because getting back is really difficult from that point.

As for when? I am guessing 2:30, but thats a guess not based on anything substantial other than my burning desire to ride.

Flow 12-21-2007 11:06 AM

Thanks!

Man I wish our group back home was this helpful...

Thanks!

Skyway Scott 12-21-2007 11:57 AM

Apparently it just turned on.
I am going to go to Pass a Grille if anyone wants to go.

Tom Stock 12-21-2007 03:42 PM

Backside blew... and then sucked..
oh well.

Skyway Scott 12-21-2007 04:07 PM

Yeah. It was a little weird. Across the channel it never really stopped blowing, I was fully powered. Yet, I could barely go upwind.
I didn't think the current got that strong out there, but obviously it does.

Still had a good time, I just would have liked to have tried more tricks, that was kind of the whole point of blowing off the beach. Oh well, back to studying.

rigger 12-21-2007 07:01 PM

PG was good from about 12:30 till about 3:30, when i left. Solid 15.
