Monday
I'm in town until Christmas, but I don't have all my usual forecast links, etc.. not that I'd know exactly where to go anyway. Last I checked it was going to be barely rideable until about noon tomorrow with 12 knots out of the NNE. Has anything changed, and where can I go?

Good luck guys, you'll need it!!! ;)

Yeah, look at the current wind... ugh, average of .3 mph... lol.
Today was a great boat ride kind of day though. :D |
NOAA is calling for 10-15 knots NE, I think it will pick up when the fog burns off just enough to have some light wind fun. Saturday was rideable from 9:00-1:00, so I plan on being there around 9:30.

What about tomorrow? I could definitely stop somewhere down there on my way back to Miami, and it looks like wind in the afternoon, although forecasts are showing everything from no wind to wind out of the NNW, N, and/or NNE.. http://www.ikitesurf.com/windandwher...orecast+Graphs |
Ah yes, welcome to the lovely world of Tampa Bay where forecasting is a delight.

Do you guys use iKitesurf? If so, which sensor to you find most reliable (they seem kind of bad). I am in sarasota for the holidays and would love to get some kiting in.

of course not, but why spoil their fun? merry x-mas everybody! ( whether you are wind waiting or making turkey, ( I'm doing the later ) )! |
For the Skyway area (NE, E wind directions) use this sensor
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/data/obhistory/KSPG.html and add about 25% to the wind speed. So if it's saying 10 there, it's probably 13 at the SW. If it's saying 16, it's 20. The PaG sensor - average the lulls with the average... that's closer to the average than the "average". Ignore the direction it tells you it's blowing. For the Clearwater sensor, it's just a tad high, but pretty close. In general, our sensor situation is poor here and you have to factor the info provided with experience combining that with "real wind" given by riders. Some of the sensors only update every 2 hours (which is semi useless) or just give bad information. Still, once you understand what you are working with and don't just take it at face value, it's better than nothing. I usually just look at a few trees in my yard, this link (ad free) http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/maps/Central_Florida.shtml and the Baynews9 beach cam to figure it out. The best is when someone calls or posts to say it's blowing. :) |
hey scott
can you make a permanent sticky of your above page so we can access and remind ourselves of the adjustment to each meter....that would be cool..thanks allen
