Skyway Scott 11-14-2007 03:33 PM

I've been sick, but am not getting any better.
May as well go :)
(I took that approach once way back when I was a pole boarder and got pneumonia :( )
Hopefully that won't happen again.

We will just wait and see on the timing, I guess (?)

Unimog Bob 11-14-2007 03:39 PM

Allen,
I love ya man, but you are going to burn in hell. May the peace of the the profit be with you. I'm taking Friday off and after my Salat I'm up for dawn patrol. I can only do the down winder if it is toward Mecca. I think sun up at the skyway sounds good then see what the day brings. it should be an epic day ishna'Allah. Salam Alikom my brother.

Skyway Scott 11-14-2007 04:50 PM

Wow.
25 degree temperature differences are forecast inland b/n the low and high on Sat and Sunday.
http://www.baynews9.com/ForecastCenter.html

To me, that has always spelled some serious wind for a couple hours starting about a half hour after sunrise out at the SW and east beach.
Most likely near/immediately following sunset too. It should be good Saturday and Sunday mornings from the E or ENE.

It's gonna be cold though..... :( , at least at first.
Usually once it's comfy out, the wind is over with and gone. (that's when most people show :) )

bayflite 11-14-2007 06:32 PM

count me in on that downwinder osama
i've been converted
i get done with work @ 2ish
peace

Skyway Scott 11-14-2007 08:20 PM

We missed you on the last one when you went to NB instead, Bayflite :(

Is it really going to do much tomorrow?
I know a few sights are saying so, but.......
I hope it does. Fingers crossed.

Sean B 11-14-2007 08:25 PM

Al I was at SandKey with you, bob, wolfie, and scott the other day. Not sure if you remember.....anyways, gulf downwinder sounds mighty nice thurs. SandKey sounds like a good starting point, or maybe even north clearwater beach to sand key.

bigairal 11-15-2007 05:55 AM

scott...

give us the word scott if you dont think it will blow till after sunset....post it here so everyone can benefit from the weather info. sean everyone invited...lets hope there is breeze.

BigR 11-15-2007 06:01 AM

Many blessings bestowed upon thee, the Jihad burns bright in you

The prophet says it will indeed blow from the west after the ritual prayers @3pm

Skyway Scott 11-15-2007 06:55 AM

I didn't think coldfronts existed any more, so was fairly suspicious about an actual NWr. Plus Accuweather was saying nil yesterday in their forecast.

But you guys seem to be right (as always) and prayers are working.
You can see a narrow frontal boundary up in the PanHandle right now and it seems to be moving toward us pretty good. :p
Winds behind it seem to be at around 20 knots or more.
I guess it's just a matter of how fast it gets here. It looks like it's movin' pretty good (like noon or 1pm good) ;)

Is it possible to be rigged and on the water by 3pm, so we can ride a couple hours?
Maybe earlier? What are your guy's timelines?

I want to make it but just found a rather large cavity at the gumline of my rear lower molar last night.
(I was wondering why my whole lower jaw has ached for days and I am so fatigued - Dentist Dad will not be impressed).

inferno 11-15-2007 07:14 AM

im game around 2 or 3

we should try to get a good size group for a DW....

BigR 11-15-2007 07:51 AM

I'll try to hit PaG after 3pm

A-Bomb 11-15-2007 07:55 AM

I'm down. Dale and I were planning a downwinder too. I'm out "sick" today. I'd like to be rigged as soon as the squall line passes through.

Wow Scott... sick, cavities, you're in rough shape. We better check you into the ALF, but you should probably get one last good ride in.

bigairal 11-15-2007 08:08 AM

all AL-KITE_ AH members....

Cool. I'm just planning on getting some stuff done and heading out when it's about to be good. If we don't pin it down on the forum here, I'll give you a call.

bigairal 11-15-2007 08:38 AM

Magnum T.I. 11-15-2007 08:59 AM

Scottie-Temparin will patch your tooth. Its at Walgreens or anywhere else in the tooth care section.
Al-Kite-Ah - You kite bar and shoe bombs are at my mudhut. We will be roasting goats on the grill when the sun sets over the land of the infidels.
By the way.......... Your 27 virgins aren't virgins anymore.....sorry.....:p

Skyway Scott 11-15-2007 09:33 AM

Thanks for the advice on ALF and cement guys.
I called Al-kite-ah. We are thinking about meeting at Sand Key Park around 1 or 2 and riding in there in preps for a downwinder starting by 3pm. That gives us 2 hours to ride a DW.

In other words, if you arrive "early" we can ride in there and hold ground for awhile, then do a DW when "all" arrive. (excessive use of " " )
Does that sound like a plan?
Just let us know on here if you want to try to make it to the DW so we don't leave without you.

Bring socks (bare minimum) and some money (2 bucks to be safe) for the trolley.

A-Bomb 11-15-2007 09:44 AM

See you guys at Sand Key. I'll bring the "virgins" and "socks".

Unimog Bob 11-15-2007 10:39 AM

I can't make the DW today. If you can put your trolley fare in a zip lock or bring coins. The driver wasn't too happy with wet sandy bills last time. Socks are the way to go for foot wear. Do like Toby and stash them in your wet suit while riding to impress the ladies.

Sean B 11-15-2007 11:06 AM

Woohoo! See you at SandKey, good times...

amber 11-15-2007 11:10 AM

don't any of you people have jobs? (not counting Al cuz his job rocks) Can we please have some decent wind on the weekend again? please?

Skyway Scott 11-15-2007 11:29 AM

I just started looking for a job yesterday.

Listen.. plans changed a tad. A group of people is meeting at IRB (26th Ave) to do a DW. It's at about 6 guys right now.

Al-kite-Ah is going that way, just got off the phone with him.
Winds still are light, but blowing 26 now in the PanHandle and 17 in Brooksville. Might happen today.. might not.

Anyway, IRB looks like new place to start.

A-Bomb 11-15-2007 11:44 AM

Looks like we'll have at least a little wind this weekend in the mornings.

Ok, IRB it is.

inferno 11-15-2007 11:51 AM

what street at IRB????

Skyway Scott 11-15-2007 11:51 AM

45 minutes until wind is my guess. I am outta here. ;)

Is 26th Ave a common meeting spot?
Al made it sound like it.

Danimal8199 11-15-2007 04:10 PM

Did it happen? I hit 23rd for some lunch at the thai place around 1:30 and there wasn't shit for wind. I had not checked on this forum until just now but I had all my gear, 6 quarters and was ready to go, but there was no wind!

I came home, check Ikitesurf and it showed 8 the around 3 12 then around 4 about 16, now its 5:15 and its showing 30. I hope you guys got some!

Skyway Scott 11-15-2007 06:36 PM

Several of us were hanging out "wasting" time (I was enjoying just hanging) and wondering if it was going to blow... then
it went friggin' ballistic is what happened. I didn't feel good enough to do the DW, unfortunately, but rode for about an hour up at IRB.
About 10 riders did the DW (several on 12m kites, a few on 15m ....OUCH.... lol)

It basically filled in and then went straight to nukesville. I was on a 9m kite, litt outta my mind.
I came in and handed it off to Danny for awhile and watched him ride it.
I am certain it was solid 30. The CLW sensor says it was solid 30 to 35.
(ignore the huge lull at 7pm.... that's an error) http://www.iwindsurf.com/windandwher...49&siteID=1925

Magnum T.I. 11-15-2007 10:16 PM

Wuz great here, went from a 15m (nicely powered ) to overpowered, to a 10m and WAAAYYYY overpowered. Gusty but fun from 3:45-5:45, worth the wait fo sho...
Glad 2 hear u guyz got out, and that all kiters accounted for. Got a little KrAyZeE when it finally kicked in...
EB earlee AM til??? Rumor of a slizzider 2 play on, so don't forget a helmet and vest.

Unimog Bob 11-16-2007 05:30 AM

EB?? how are you going to ride EB on a N?? I'd like to hear the story of how AL and Chris did on their 14M eras on the DW I was holding mine down in the high 20s in flat water. 30+ in the gulf would be a handful.

Skyway Scott 11-16-2007 05:48 PM

Chris Bigger, Danny and myself rode EB a few seasons ago on a north.
We did water launches on the blocked side of EB and rode upwind around to the windward side (opposite of where we normally ride).
It was actually quite awesome, except for the lame launch.
That was back in C kite day, so the launch was a total lofting joke, as there was zero wind on the water and about 25 knots and gusty above the (mangrove) tree line.

Magnum T.I. 11-16-2007 07:31 PM

Was actually NNW and worked out just fine from 9:30-12:00 or so before it was dead.
No water there today, but had fun just cruisin the muck.
muckboarding rocks dude...
