Downwinder on Friday

Looks like its finally gonna be back in the 60's tomorrow. Tide should be high enough for a Lassing to SW downwinder after 1 PM. Hopefully the wind will hold on 1 more day.
Anyone interested?

Skyway Scott 01-03-2008 07:42 PM

I will do it if it's early.
I would hate to rig just to have it die on us, to swim in with one of these guys..... http://www.sptimes.com/2008/01/03/St...ale_weig.shtml.

Can you go early before 9am? We could leave from Gandy, maybe, so that the tide wouldn't be as much of a factor.
I know, it's gonna be cold.... ugh..... but once it warms up, I think the wind might die tomorrow.

BigR 01-03-2008 08:09 PM

AH.........

now we definitely know where the course will be.

better start practicing........

CrazyJay 01-03-2008 08:20 PM

Scott, I was thinking about going early BUT....
the tide will be dry and it will be 45 degrees.
I give u props for ridin in those temps but I just cant bring myself to do it anymore.
I'm praying the wind holds up thru the afternoon.
I will probably only ride to Pinellas Point (near my house) that way if the wind dies there is always a safe place to come in.

I understand. Don't give me props for riding in the cold, though, it's only the fear of swimming with that "fish" that motivates me to want to make sure there is wind!

Guys, I get off at noon tomorrow. I was going to try and ride.

When you guys do a downwinder from Gandy or Lassing how do you get back? I take it someone leaves a car at skyway??

Is anyone going to ride at SW,LP, or NorthShore tomorrow or is it just a downwinder kinda day???

Danny

I could be in for that oneif the forecast holds, but more like 2:00. Wolfie, you down???

toby wilson 01-04-2008 01:48 AM

I'm in for the downwinder if the wind holds. Keep us updated as to where everyone is going...

Big G 01-04-2008 07:06 AM

I'm up for a downwinder. I plan on setting up at the Gandy as usual and end at Skyway with a short break at Lassing.

Skyway Scott 01-04-2008 07:19 AM

I am going to get some stuff done and wait til later, if you guys think it is going to hold.
I don't think it will, but I will keep my fingers crossed. I want to do that DW. :)

Did the water in and near Tampa Bay really drop all the way down to 53 degrees?!!
I was thinking it would drop from 72 a couple days ago down to about 60 or so, and was (am) concerned about snook going into thermal shock.

But is it really at 53 though, like Baynews9 says? That's crazy, if so.

Looks like the tide will be high enough around 1-2PM. Unfortunately it looks like thats the same time the wind is gonna start dropping :0(
Fingers Crossed.

CrazyJay 01-04-2008 09:47 AM

It died... damnit

Danimal8199 01-04-2008 10:39 AM

Are you monitoring the Ikitesurf sensors or are you looking at something else?

CrazyJay 01-04-2008 11:00 AM

http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/por...tbscreen.shtml

much more accurate than ikite

Danimal8199 01-04-2008 05:05 PM

Thanks man, too bad it died I was looking forward to some exercise!

CrazyJay 01-04-2008 05:23 PM

Me too. Doesn't look like any nukin fronts comin our way any time soon.
The good news is that the gulf dropped 12 degrees to around 60 F.
That means if we get some hot days we'll have a nice seabreeze.
Anyone got a light wind kite they wanna sell? (ie. 15 meter Slingshot REV or equiv.)

bayflite 01-04-2008 08:38 PM

seabreeze in january?
