I have noticed this for quite some time.
As the land cools off, the winds "fill in" near shore. I think they are really just sinking from the doming effect losing strength as the day cools.
The winds can pick up REAL fast as the land cools. We see it out in the channel before we get it on shore.

Thanks for the info.
Do you guys have the winds fill in as the land cools, too?

Yep. Same thing. We are all waiting on the beach and can see the wind line coming in. A couple of times I have got solo sessions in because I was willing to wait a little longer. Funny thing is that there are kiters close by. As soon as my kite goes up and they see movement, they show up.

Scott check out this book. I would not recomend it to very many folks, (very technical and kind of tough to read) but I am sure you will really like it. The author is an expert and has done his homework, he puts together a very interesting wind / cloud manual. This book can be found in the library of many a famous sailor.

Cool thanks. When I first saw the author's name, I thought it was the OTHER Alan Watts. I read a bunch of his stuff awhile back.
Weird I thought, the guy switched from philosophy to weather (?!)
I was really confused when I realized he has been dead for thirty years. Wow, this dude really mastered dying, apparently! :)

Trey Parker made a short film to a snippet from one of his lectures.
I couldn't find a Trey Parker film on wind, sorry. :(
