My wife and I have moved to Cape Coral, Florida on April 2004 from Sacramento, Calif. We have made a new year's resolution to learn kite boarding by May 1, 2006. I am 57 and my wife is 51 and we are both in good health and reasonably fit. Both of us have participated in sports all of our lives, and my wife is well versed in athletics.

Right now, I would like to do the research to find out what options we have in learning the sport, what we need to do in order to prepare ourselves, physically, and set our schedule up to reach our goal. If you can help me with this, or point me in the direction, I would appreciate it.

I have been kiteboarding for over seven years and am still learning so good luck with your one month goal!

Like basic airplane manuvering the "mechanics" of kiteboarding can be fairly simplistic. That is unless something goes wrong, then it can become quite complex requiring some knowledge and experience.

I would try to line up a good instructor. Roy Massey with aceperformer.com is based up in Ft. Meyers. Some ideas in selecting an instructor appear at:

Things to think about after initial lessons appear at:

I would work on stretching, some good ideas on this have been prepared by a kiteboarding chiropracter and instructor. It used to be free but I see Joe has published a book. Still it is worth the investment I suspect at:

The training of your minds is the important part as I implied at the start. Instruction today may or may not cover some of this. Some things to checkout include:

It seems that the majority of accidents MIGHT have been avoided or minimized if these ideas had been employed. Knowledge is power and go a long way to helping you to realize the fun of kiteboarding and potentially dodge the more ackward points.

Hard won lessons worth thinking about with more of the same in the KSI at: http://fksa.org/index.php?c=22

Have fun!
