If I were you, I'd be more worried about whats going on in SPI then SWFL.

This is our least reliable wind time of year. Hurricanes may bring grief or kill the wind entirely, sometimes rideable conditions too but irregularly. It really isn't feasible to predict when there will be useable wind in large enough holes free of squalls more than a few hours in advance as a rule. It would be tough to fly in for it in most conditions. Use your miles to go for more certain conditions. The ABC island latitudes are good usually until late July. Most other areas I know of in the Caribbean are up and down this time of year. Cabarete and PR get screwed over by tropical systems too at times. Or, you could wait until later in the year for better conditions here or down in the Caribbean.

What follows is a case when a hurricane brought very bad things to SW Florida and by odd coincidence some useable wind free of squalls for a narrow section of the SE Coast, for a while. The hurricane was to hit Tampa but instead suddenly veered ENE and slammed into Punta Gorda while strengthening.

We all have our time in the barrel over time, hopefully not this season though. Look at all the houses on stilts in that part of Florida on the barrier island. Lots more than on the SE coast mainland. Must have had some strong motivation in the past.
