Kayak Against Cancer is having their annual event this Saturday. It starts at Tiki Beach, runs to Oakland Park, reverses course, runs south and into Pt. Everglades and the Intracoastal Waterway, hang a right and head north in the ICW to Bahia Cabana for the finish! Hey, it's only 12 miles AND its open to Standup Paddle Surfing, see below.

Remember the first Hobie Series Standup race was to go from Tiki Beach through Pt. Everglades and finish by the Hall of Fame? This run is close, only longer on the ocean side. Should be a spectacular run! This is for charity and there is a minimum $35. donation. I read that ALL funs are to be given to the charity. These folks have raised over $145,000.00 for cancer research over the years too.

From the FAQ for the event ...

How about another type of vessel?

Yes you can. However, prizes will only be given for the first, second and third to finish categories for sit on top and touring kayaks. If you would like to have a category added, contact Chuck at the e-mail address or phone number above. It is the responsibility of the KAC committee to determine the category of each vessel.

Where and when is the start?

Where: The North end of South Beach Park, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This is located just north of the entrance of the South Beach Park parking lot.

When: Saturday June 20th, 2009. Registration is at 6:30 AM. The event starts at 8:00 AM. This is where and when you should turn in your registration form, liability waiver, and your donations forms and checks for donations. Please no cash. Please have your donations form and checks in an envelope with your name and the total amount of donations written on the outside of the envelope. If you show up the day of the event without the forms, you can fill one out when you arrive. If you know of an individual and/or business who would like to sponsor Kayak Against Cancer, have them contact Chuck at the telephone number or e-mail address provided.

When and Where is the End?

Where: Bahia Cabana Restaurant Beach Resort, 3001 Harbor Drive, Ft. Lauderdale. It is located directly across A1A from the Yankee Clipper Hotel.

When: Paddling will end at 12:00 PM. The appreciation party at Bahia Cabana will start at 1:00 PM. Wherever you are at 12pm, it's time to stop. If you are not near the end, pull over into one of the designated KAC Beaching Locations/Safety Check Points.
Important Note: It is extremely important that every participant check in with volunteers wherever you decide to end your participation. This will allow us to ensure that all participants who start the event get out of the water safely. If for any reason you do not stop at one of the designated Beaching Locations/Safety Check Points, or at Bahia Cabana, please contact us at one of the above listed telephone numbers as soon as possible. This will also allow us to make arrangements for you transportation and ensure your safety.

This is NOT the course for Kayak Against Cancer, it is left over from the first Hobie Standup run. It does approximate PART of the run for Saturday's event however. Just loop north to Oakland Park Blvd. from Tiki Beach and stop sooner about two blocks south at Bahia Cabana on the south side of Bahia Mar Yacht Basin.
