That's right; Adventure Sports Miami is hosting a series of SUP races on the 1st and 3rd Thursday's of each month at Scotty’s Landing in Coconut Grove, Florida. Races start at 6:45 sharp. Those that want to compete must arrive by 6:30
to be placed in brackets. There is no charge for this fun event series.

Last Thursday we did a little test of our "Mano a Mano" (hand to hand) SUP race at Scotty's Landing in Coconut Grove. It was a total success and really stoked all of the participants for the start of our series.

This unique type of racing is fun for everyone and equally weights board handling skills and speed. Competitors will race head to head in a “pursuit” style race. Two marks are placed approximately 15 yards apart. Two competitors will start at opposite ends of the course and round the marks in pursuit of the other rider. When one rider is able to catch the other and “tap out” on the tail of the other riders board, he or she will advance to the next round.

Just bring yourself as Adventure Sports Miami is bringing the boards. If you have a board that you would like to race, bring it along. Keep in mind that as we are launching off docks paddlers need to take special care to avoid damaging their boards.

In the interests of time, these races are limited to the first 20 riders to sign up.

Hey Kent...How can I bring that to Our Event, if there is not enough wind for the Downwind Race or the Course Race...?..We have plenty of River Space to launch from, and We can set-up one Big Course, and even put objects in the river to make it even harder to get around the course...If there are enough people there also, You are more than welcome to even do a Demo for the Industry, and have those people in the race too...Let me know what you think, it looks very fun to do...

don't forget, Thursday night SUP racing at Scotty's. It looks like we should have a very good turn out. It's pretty low key so either sign up to race or belly up to the bar and watch.

See you there.

Have fun down there, weather looks good for it. Had some nice wind last night. Grab some pictures to put up.

Yep it should be good. We will have Oxbow, Naish, and NSP boards on hand to check out. If you are looking to learn about SUP come over to the ASM shop to see our entire line up first hand. Don't be afraid to give it a try, it's much easier than it looks! Although it looks pretty easy too...

Hey Kent,

When I first heard about standup talking to guys out in Hawaii in 2006*, they talked about doing downwinders. That is long paddles, 5 to 8 miles sort of downwind and out in the wind swells. They would do it in a group as a social thing of sorts. Today's a bit strong but doable running south to north. You could do some interesting point to point stuff in Biscayne Bay or down Miami Beach.

Here's an idea how about circumnavigating Virginia Key (about 6 miles) or Key Biscayne (about 11 miles)? You would need to time the tides but it could be a blast. What do you think?
