The Fountain of Youth, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Earnest Hemingway come together as the World’s Best Kitesurfers Battle the Forces of the Bermuda Triangle in their quest to win Kitesurfing's Golden Crown!

Bimini, Bahamas, November 12-16, 2008: The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism Teams with Bimini Bay and Adventure Sports Miami to present “THE BIMINI WINDS”, Kitesurfing’s Newest and Most Adventurous Event!

Bimini is a small island jewel floating on the eastern edge of the Gulf Stream. It’s the famed sport fishing capital of the world, rumored to be the location of the Fountain of Youth, the inspiration for Hemingway’s “Islands in the Stream”, and lays smack in the middle of the mysterious Bermuda Triangle. Brought into the kiteboarding scene during the 2005 Bahamas Crossing, where 16 two man teams battled the elements during an exciting race from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to Bimini, Bimini is an island for the adventurer.

Whether you’re looking to compete, free ride, learn, or just watch the most colorful and exhilarating sport in the world, Bimini Bay is the place to be November 12th – 16th of 2008. Kitesurfers from all over the world will be traveling to the tiny island just off Florida’s Coast to compete for $8,000 dollars prize money. Challenging obstacles called Kickers and Sliders will be placed in the shallow, clear waters of Bimini Bay for top competitors to utilize in hopes of winning the judges eye. Others will be racing at speeds in excess of 40 miles per hour powered only by the warm Bahamian winds. They will be stacked side by side when rounding the marks and charging for the finish line. Spectacular crashes and big jumps are the reward for spectators, while prize money and glory reward the victors.

The kite addicted, traveling with families and friends need not worry. Non-kiters can enjoy the best off shore and near shore fishing in the world. Take a dive with wild dolphins, kayak or Stand Up Paddle to a desolate beach, or relax at the infinity pool while knocking back a Mojito, it’s all good. Everyone will enjoy nightly video shows, bonfires, and even a pirate costume party. Those wanting to learn to kite will have 4 of the best schools in the world to choose from. Book lessons in advance and learn to kitesurf in the warm, shallow waters of Bimini Bay!

Sounds like a blast Kent! Thanks for working to make this unique event a reality. Folks you haven't seen anything yet until you have a good wind session in the Bahamas. With all the bells and whistles they've lining up for this one, it will not be soon forgotten. Just a quick hop over the Straits and you're there! Flat water, clear water, ALL warm water, just add wind and rip loose. This is going to be Epic.

Rick,

Obviously there are some intricacies in planning an event like this. Fortunately we have the support of the resort, the tourism board, and the locals.

Shortly we will have the online registration forums up so riders can reserve their spots. This event will be limited to 50 racers, and 32 for the kicker slider event. Of course, I'd expect that many will come to just ride and have fun.

It is pretty important to make arrangements for flights ASAP to insure availability. Or site is still missing some info, but we should be up to speed soon. I guess that the most important part is that this will be fun for everyone in the family. Diving, fishing, SUP, lessons, and more. We really want to pump this one up.

The easiest way to do this is for groups to get together to rent entire houses. A 3 bed unit at Bimini Bay will easily accommodate 8-11 people. And will cost roughly $75 per head each night. Additionally I would recommend that everyone takes advantage of the $175 non-competitor package. This includes all lunches, dinners, and parties. It looks like we will have at least 2 nights of open bars. This is a pretty good deal, especially on the islands where food is expensive.

Going forward we will be adding other fun events and clinics. We should have a great list if prizes in addition to the $8000 in cash. Put this one on your calendar.

Anyone book air yet? Need to get on the stick with this myself. I was looking through the archives for surface shots of the various activities areas of the event. Stay tuned, should go up soon once I'm out of this diving course.
