just got this message from ikitesurf

Dear Bryan,

We've finally received permission to mount a weather station on a great
location over open water just offshore from Ft. Desoto. We just wanted to
let you know we'll be processing your membership as soon as that station is
installed, which should be the second or third week in June, unless we hear
otherwise from you. You'll receive another email once your membership has
been processed.

Thanks for your patience and your support!

The iWindsurf and iKitesurf Team

just a heads up.
memberships to ikite get auto-renewed.
so if you don't want to be a member anymore,
you need to change your debit card # with your bank.

You can also write them and request that they do not charge you. That's what I did, Bayflite, when I got that e-mail.

You can choose cancel service under the first heading of choices. (if you want to)

i have been working with them to get a wind sensor. i put them in contact with mark with (usf ports) and with our tampa bay pilot president. they were trying to get a sensor on egmont key. i guess that did not work out so fort desoto will be great too. at least i have witnessed some serious efforts on getting a sensor for us.

That's cool. Thanks for working with them. I am sure that sensor will help many riders.

Bayflght pretty much only goes out when it is obviously going to blow all day, though. In his case it would be a waste to pay for a sensor to get daily readings.
I just didn't want him canceling a card when iKite is cool with you not joining up due to a new sensor. I live right down the street and just look at my trees.

Finding I need to look at the sensor less and less these days. If it's not -obviously- windy I don't bother riding. Sensors are usually the #1 reason I get skunked.

The only one I look at is the skyway and it's free.

I'll probably cancel this time around... but I am happy to hear they are installing another sensor. While I probably won't need it, there are plenty of sea breeze chasers who will use it a lot (and get skunked a lot because of it telling them 12-15.. when it's really 8-13 been there done that!).

Thanks for the heads up!

would everyone pay if the one at Ft. Desoto is dead accurate?

obviously we have a history of questionable sensors.

ive talked to people around other launches (hood river, OBX, etc) and when asking them "are your wind sensors accurate?" they answer "of course!"

Oh hey I wasn't suggesting the sensor wasn't accurate... I mean a sensor can't be right all the time unless it follows you around.

What I meant was that if the sensor says 13, I'll would try, and most likely get skunked.

The best sensor for me would say "DONT BOTHER" until it his a solid 16mph, and then it would pump up my kite and rig for me when I got there late after work.

Oh wait that's Scott. iKite needs a few of him.

Here's the new link! Weatherflow(Ikitesurf) will contribute 20.00 to TBKA for every new membership processed. This money will be used for TBKA events that will benefit all local kiters. Thanks Matt Corey from Weatherflow for hooking this up! He may even check in on the tbka site to keep us informed of new information on additional sensors for our area. Special thanks to local legend Al-Kite-Ah for his effort to make this happen!!!
Let's all support their efforts!
