Well the first pictures taken was me on a 7 when I thought I was on a 12. All I can say is they (7 and 12) are the same color and not enough sleep before going out! It was quite the feet to stay up wind in under 20 knots on the 7!

But today was awesome 20-30 knots and no work nagging at us or lawns to trim, roofs to fix etc etc....

Maya can run around like the kook she is on the ocean side.

Barbecue at our place on Friday for all you Tampa Bay kiters up in hatteras.

Highly recommend this place drive is not bad, house rentals are reasonable and it is beautiful.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

If it's really beauty sleep, it will be more like 40 hours. :)

Sounds like a blast you guys. I just can't ever rationalize traveling anywhere for wind anymore when every time I went somewhere it blew here. Have a great time.

I can (rationalize it), and for at least a week and a half every year!!! OBX just plain ROCKS!!! (so does Key West - another place I can rationalize)... :)

Kite Point Kookiness , 20-30kts and Tornadoes

Monday was prity epic, counted 40 kites in a 2 mile swath around kite point. didn't get to take many pics cause was out shredding, then it rained in the afternoon for a lil' bit and tornado warnings went up NW of us

Kite point had many more kites earlier

Today the Tampa crew just doubled in size! at the end of my downwinder from Avon I ran into Bryan and Dan who had just arrived and were heading out into the waves, cool!

I know I said yesterday was my fav , but now today is. Served up some nice atlantic waves for two hours this morning 18-22kts side side-offshore perfect riding conditions before anybody showed up then it lightened to 15-16kt and a whole bunch of kiters showed up for a downwinder so I joined them. Pretty tired and stoked after that sweet wave session.

only 13 hour trip for us cuz we dont take no wimpy naps on our drive!
ha!

got to the obx at 9am and saw kites flying at buxton.. we launched our 16s and enjoyed some early am breeze.

ice cold water slapping across the face equals 6 cups o' joe.

hatteras is sparse. a lot different than i was expecting. .. its truly a sliver of land between 2 huge bodies of water. every building is on 10 foot stilts.. we are on the 3rd floor (4th if you count the stilts) ... amazing view of the atlantic...

huge bottle of sailor jerry to go!

tomorrow looks very promising!!

yee haw!

friday started off a bit shaky for dan and i...

lets just say the Element is an amazing vehicle ... but a Sand Traversing Machine it is not.

That info comes at a price. 150$ to be exactly.

I am positive that the most lucrative business in this area is towing.

oh well.

we were un-stuck by noon and hit kitepoint for about an hour session.. got our stuff together and prepped for a very very nice downwinder from Kitepoint to First turn-out.

Just an amazing way to spend a couple hours.. tons of wind.. so much space and water...

and a couple slicks to cruise around.. (or get stuck behind and have to trudge thru sludge to get out... oh well)

todays wind should pick up.. looking for a Planet of the Apes to Real Slick run today!!

Today and yesterday was awesome, great place for downwinders. It was great to meet up with Dan and Bryan and join them for a downwinder yesterday and today. Downwinders get you out of the pack with tons of space to ride here.

Ugg back to work on Monday. Can't wait for the Gorge and Oregon coast in July!

Awesome time!
kited 7 out of 8 days, all of them on either 9 or 12m except for one day on a 17m.
The usual up here is 50/50 so lucky! tired and sore, yesterday Litt on the 12m , Lill'L on a 7 and today 12m + 9m

Wow you guys hit it good. I was there the week before you and we had 3 days of rain and thunderstorms. Still I kited 4 out of 8 days.

Come back to Ontario and get 2 days in a row - a little bit cooler though!

Great pics. Recognize that place just south of kite point. We hung out there when we were down there.

Great time in the obx!!

truly the downwinders are the best way to spend the time there..

We did the Kite Point to First Turn Out on Friday.. then the Planet of the Apes to KOA (just past Real slick) on Saturday.

Both are amazing 2 1/2 hour runs.. both with lots of scenery, swells and flat to be had.

My pers. fav is riding just north of the slick at Real.. some true flat water with small islands to jump...

Glad to be back home.. but going to miss the winds..

one main item to note.. I really expected to see some amazing riders there.. I figured with so many kiters in one area I would get to see some guys and gals just tearing it up.

COMPLETELY the opposite.

I would say that 90% of the hundred of so kiters that I rode near were less than 6 months into the sport.. I saw 1 person (one!) unhook for some small jumps.. I saw 3 or 4 people that could jump more than 10 feet off the water and do small rolls. I saw 2 riders do small kiteloops..

LOTS of odd launching and landing.. tons of people barely able to ride upwind.. everyone with tight wetsuits and no board shorts (yikes!)..

one guy in only short-shorts.. (imagine Lt. Dangle from Reno:911 w/o a shirt.. ow!)

it was an ODD scene. EVERYONE was from Montreal. I gave them shit with my huge Tampa Bay Lightning sticker on my car.. sucks that Philly took their team down during our stay.. haha!

Even up by Real, seemed like it was all beginners or very new riders.

quite a bit different than I expected.

Agreed Bryan I was surprised at the skill level of kitesurfers. I think overall I like Oregon better but it was nice to do some easy kitiing and not constantly looking over your shoulder for puffs of wind blasting down the river! Saw a few really good female kiters doing kiteloops so that was good to see

I think also would have been fun to do downwinders on the coast side.

But seeing as I grew up in Northeast Vermont alpine skiing with all those crazy canuks I felt right at home kiting at Vermonter hole next to canadien hole and I think I even particpated in one crazy slippery launch myself! Don't worry I just said I was visiting from Vermont!

I am getting a North Pacific tri fin surfboard 5'6" before we go to the Gorge if anybody wants to try it in the fall when we get good wind let me know. I definetly think the surfboards are alot of fun.
