Last Wed. i did a kiteloop to fractured rib @ P-Grille. Absolutely sucks with all this warm wind. Anyway, just wondering if anyone has ever had a broken rib. The doctors told me 2-3 weeks. I know that there is nothing to really do for it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chase

Chase, I'll trade your broken rib for my broken kite from last Wednesday...

Hope you heal soon good buddy and yeah, I think Linda is right...impact vest is the way to go for you young whippersnappers doing all those crazy tricks!!! LOL!!!

I broke my rib riding behind a wake boat on my Jimmy Lewis 139. I was wearing an impact vest. Hurt pretty bad. Hurt MUCH worse the 2nd time I fell on it at 25+mpg!

I feel for ya' brotha. You're gonna feel it for a while! Not much you can do except forget about it!

I fractured my rib about 4-5 months ago. I still have and will always have a pronounced bump on the rib. I stayed off it 2 months and bought a seat harness to keep it from being hurt again. Stay off it as long as you can! Wait until you do not feel any pain even when you do sit ups. If you don't it will just keep happening!

it hurts way worse the 2nd time around. I fractured my rib and then kited like a week later and went ahead and broke it, so my advice would be to listen to at least half of what the doc says!!! i think about 3 or 4 weeks would have pretty well healed me, doc said 6 weeks, but it ended up being like almost 2months before it was over with since i re-injured it, and another month till the swelling went down. I actually still have a lump there. But if you chill out and let it heal you should be at least lawn mowin' in a few weeks. bummer dude, sorry to hear it:(

Ouch.. broke some ribs once myself (racing bmx) and it hurts like hell. I had to finish my races and thought I was gonna end up with a punctured lung because breathing hurt pretty bad.

Hurt my ribs (but not broken) and back in a waist harness... switched to a seat harness (but the shorts, not a diaper) and no more rib or back problems.

Hope ya heal quick.

Wheew... good to know I'm not the only one with a bump on my rib after breakin' it! I thought it was a loose piece or somethin'! ;)

Hopefully your rib will heal up real soon, Chase.
I think you most likely will have to take some time off, though

my story.. slipped on a mexican tile step during a typical torrential downpour about 4 years ago.. had zero time to react.. didnt even get a hand down to soften the impact.. hit my back between the shoulder blades on the top stair edge.. (no alcohol involved.. hhehehe)..

result after some serious misdiagnosis - fractured t4 vertabre.

absolutely NOTHING they could do but give you pain pills and say "take care".

just have to wait it out and take the time to let it heal .. took about 1 year for me to be back to my old self tho it's never felt 100% right since .. but i did go to a physical therapist to get a specialist to go over my injury to ensure that kiting would not damage it more..

funny that he said kiting would be fine.. but that I should avoid sitting for long hours in front of a computer or similar.. guess what i do most all day at work.. ugh.

oh well.. pays the bills.. kiting does not.

hey man

lots of good advice from the guys

it will take at least 4 weeks b4 you can get out of bed (or twist) without the pain

8 weeks and you should be 95%

seat harness will really help until it is solidly healed

then you can get back to a waist harness again

The key advise you are getting is a harness change for the next 8 to 10 months so that you don't keep aggravating the rib. The Ocean Rodeo Sessions harness is a waist harness with fully adjustable leg straps that keep it from coming up into your rib area at all. When you are all better you have the option of taking the leg straps off and using it as a cool dude waist harness. Big difference between this harness and a seat harness is that the straps pull out away from your package not into it. Good luck give yourself time to get better before you kite again.

thanks for the tips. i will def. look into a seat harness despite the restrictions and "un-coolness" lol.

I have a Med OR Session if you think it would fit.

I unintentionally kite-looped my way into a cracked or fractured rib trying to help someone recover their board at the beginning of last season, and it was a solid 6 weeks before I even thought about launching again. I just hope you don't end up with a lump like Wolfie has. It looks like he's sportin a new sack or somethin' about 6" under his armpit, and it's really hard to look at but he's always showing it off. It's gross, really Scott. No offense bro.

Is that why you have a hard time keeping your eyes off my new lump, beacuse it looks like a sack?...Oh well, at least it keeps your eyes off my crotch. That used to be REALLY uncomfortable!
