Hello Errol,
It is a great sport. When your bf taught you how to fly kites, what did he show you how to do?
Skimboards can serve nearshore pretty well if you have strong kite handling skills, if your kite is the right size for wind conditions and if it isn't that rough. Still, they never will be kiteboards as they are normally defined. I recall someone in the Gorge putting footstraps on a custom model but most folks just use deck pads or wax. Kiteboards have footstraps, fins (in some cases) and a bit of flotation, although not always a lot. Kiteboards make getting up and staying up easier and more reliable particularly as you venture further from shore.

thanks for the reply, my moms boyfriend taught me where to get power with a kite and how to handle it and the "window" thing, like where to get power, one thing i really am clueless about is how big of a kite to get, i live down the street from a kite shop and the kite in my price range is 4.0 m, if that is too small im considering to buy used, because the price range is 200-300 for a kite, i dont know, but would a trainer kite let me do what i want to do, like a 4.0 m, still considering i only wiegh 130, and i was thinking about getting a landboard instead, beacause i live near a lot and a lot of sand dunes, if i get good these things are like big ramps, BIG RAMPS. wheres a good place to get a land board online.
