hey, i think im gonna be needing a new kite soon for higher winds. right now i have a 06' 16m switchblade 2 and ive missed too many days because of too much wind, i weigh 240 and i need some kind of cheap kite only deal, but i really need to know what size to go for to make myself a 2 kite quiver, a 11, 12, or 13. any help or good deals thanks, Ross

if you want to keep the same bar for all the kites then you'll have to get the 12m xbow II or switch II since they don't make 11 or 13m sizes and the kites are bar specific.
I think the 12m II will actually have a little overlap with the 16m, personally I would hit up the 9m xbow II for a two kite combo or else a switch 10m

wont a 9m monkey griffin or waroo work with the same bar? also is 9 too small, because ill be going to college next year in boca raton and wont a 9 be too small for over there.

Don't know if they'll work on that bar..............
You are the guinea pig on the bar, if it doesn't work on the cabby bar then you'll have to buy another bar.

why do you assume S FLA doesn't crank?

im not, im assuming that ill be using an 11 or 12 most often, more than my 16 or a 9. if i got a 9 i dont think there would be enough wind, and my 16 may be too much.

you'll be on the 12&16 80% of the time

when it goes above 25kts you'll be outta luck

16 from 13kt to 20 and 12m from 17kt to 25

he should be able to take a 12m past 25 at 240lbs....

i know tom can :)

I have a 12m Flexifoil Ion that is basically brand new (flown maybe 6 times).

I think it would be perfect for you, Ross.

of course he can. I've taken my 17m contra up to +30kts as well. Was it enjoyable, fun or safe? It's better to make big size changes in between bigger kite sizes and small jumps in between small kite sizes.
i.e. better to go 16m > 10m and 10m > 7 or 8
The reason for this is that force of the wind increases exponentially not linearly as the wind increases

true, but the new small kites have a better range then the big kites...

i can easily ride a 9m waroo from 16-35, but i couldnt hold your 17m from 10-29....

(btw, i find it hard to believe you could ride 17m in 30 knots (36mph)???? im fully powered on a 5m waroo in that)

I'm 215, and there's only been ONE day, since May, that I needed a 9m.

I go directly from the 16 SB2 to the 12 SB2.

I didn't want to  but I had no choice, I had to wait for people to come in off the water till there was a kite catcher free. I was the last one in on the last time the 16 waroo went across 3 lanes traffic I-275. bob was there , he caught my kite. like I said, its not fun

yeah, I've used my 9m prolly 18-20x since May. scotts prolly used his more and danny prolly used his 8m once.LOL!
It all depends on how much you get to go out and if you want to use the kite way over the manufacturers intended wind range

actually, for a c-kite my 8m has pretty good lowend, i had atleast 3-4 rides on it :)
it starts around 25mph and im not sure how high it goes yet :)

I've probably used my 9m about 6 times since May.
I've only had it a few months and there hasn't been much wind. :(
Danny rode it the first week I had it (that first, 2 hour long strong cold front). He was LITT.

Worst season in 6 years, imo. I actually took all my kites, boards and gear out of my truck for the first time in 2 years a few weeks ago.
They are sitting in the garage. I figure why risk theft for a zero chance of riding.
I usually have all my stuff in there all the time as the odds of riding are usually greater than .034 % (bah wah wah....)

No kidding, for probably the first time or second time in an entire year there is no gear in my trunk.

I even had it in the summer because there was a chance of a sea breeze.

That 08 9m waroo is nuts... rode it in 25+ and got my a$$ handed to me. Seems it's more of a C kite than the old waroos... super fun but at times a lot more than I was prepared for.

Summary: This season sucks so bad I'm going on about pre-season riding.

Funny. It's SO bad, I now think of kiting as something I USED to do, and think back on it with fond memories, much as I do Ultimate frisbee, triathlons, squash, and little league and rover oh rover, come on over! (kill the carrier was the best of all time, though)

Seems like a distant memory. Having fun with my new hobby though, so I could hardly care less at this point.
Still fun to chat with you guys about it (always will be).

whats the new hobby scott?

myself.. ive been putting a lot time into my band.. we are recording our full length album.. cant wait to finish..

also I have become the Call of Duty 4 master.. my xbox360 has become my "get my mind off of sh*t" device that I wished my kites were.

oh well.

No offense, but I am planning on it not going mainstream. ;)
Not going to be talking much about it.

Cool. Put it up on the 'net (CD) for download when done.
My nephew just got C o D 4 for Xmas.

Sad reality this year, but nonetheless there is wind to be found. In the past week have ridden some nice breeze's up around IRB and some nice SE to SW at the Dunedin Causeway. Just got home from 4 hours or riding today, started around noon. It wasn't epic, but it was sunny, board shorts, and having fun with the big kites and boards. There were even some sets with 14/13M kites. I sometimes wish I lived closer to the bay, but in many ways, I am glad I live in the middle of the county as I have equal access to north and south riding locations. I guess it's all what you make with what you have. I enjoy the search.

wouldn't a two kite quiver be a 9 & 16? ( if only that is affordable ?) instead of a 12 & 16?

a 12 & 16 would be a two kite quiver, sure, but it is still not a full kite quiver ( it overlaps, but the 12 is sure a lot more fun!!!!!!!!!) . the full one would be 9, 12, 16

I think it depends on your weight and the boards you own.
I have no need for a 12m. But a large guy would. Ross is a big guy.

I think the more you weigh, the less overlap you get from kite sizes, too.
Do you think that sounds right?

Dodge ball was awesome, B. I liked hot box the most. It was basically a baseball pickle, using a tennis ball.
You could tag the guy or bean him, and he was out. Whoever ran back and forth the most before getting beaned, won.
I loved beaning kids as they were running. Great eye-hand coordination.

wow, being a pretty big guy myself, I couldn't even see going out on more than a 9m next wednesday january 2nd. But I must just be a wimp and should man it up on the 12 instead I guess is what I seem to hear

I guess I was wrong, Ross. It sounds like even bigger guys are recommending that if you have 2 kites, it should be a 16m and 9m.
I didn't think that was the case.
I just assumed only lighter riders could get away with that, especially in the overlap region of about 17 knots.

I guess I would look around for a 9m to hop on to from that 16m.
I don't want to sell you something that won't be useful (my 12m Ion).

a 12m would be a useful kite, but it would not be a 2 kite quiver, you would still need a third smaller kite for the higher wind days.

A 12m is actually the best kite size period, for a one kite quiver. but it sure isn't a full quiver is it? You are still missing the windier days and the lighter days.

If he is willing to still sacrifice the windiest days then the 12m will add 5 or so more kts to the overall high end.

to cover as much wind as possible ( if thats the objective )
1 kite quiver = 12m
2 kite quiver = 9+16m
3 kite quiver = 9+12+16m

well i think my main goal is to get 2 kites for now and then when i get some more money buy a kite dor higher winds( like a 9) but for now i think im in the market for a 12, also does anyone know if mt swtchblde2 bar will work on a crossbow? thanks for the reaponses so far.

SB2 Bar will not work on a Crossbow 1,2 or 3
