Woman in 70s survives fall from 9th floor balcony onto 1st floor canopy

FORT LAUDERDALE -- A 70-year-old woman survived a Wednesday morning fall from a ninth-floor balcony by landing on a first-floor canopy below, authorities said.
Gloria Jummati was cleaning her balcony at the Coral Ridge Towers condominium, 3333 Northeast 34th St., when she fell and landed on the canvas canopy eight floors directly below, said Division Chief James Sheehan with Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue.
Rescuers found the woman alert and talking.
She was transported to Broward General Medical Center for a broken arm and other non-life-threatening injuries, Sheehan said.
