atten: check the map http://www.swfloridakiteboarding.com/downwindmap.htm

Race Course and Possible Conditions
a. If it is an open water race, wear a waterproof watch to track your spot along the race.
b. Pick your line. Sometimes near shore (on a downwind race) seems like the fastest smoothest route. But, if you take one wipeout inside the shorebreak then you are going to spend the next 15 minutes trying to get your board back. REMEMBER.. Body dragging to the board takes 30 minutes of race energy even if it only take 5 minutes of actual time. Losing your board wears you out.. Period.
c. Know the race course. Is it open water? Are you following a boat? Is it down the shoreline? If so, which foot will you be riding forward. Practice riding that foot forward.
d. Learn to ride toeside comfortably. This will help to relieve your thighs when they start to burn.
e. Make practice runs. If you are lucky enough to live near the event then make practice runs beforehand. If you are traveling to an event try to come a few days early so you can run the course before the race. Locals have a huge advantage over riders unfamiliar with the waters.
f. Check weather for possible changes in wind speed or direction prior to race.

Latino, are you planning to do a pre-race, say, a week or two before the planned race?

Could be completely unofficial and casual rehearsal, but still a good chance to get familiar with the cource (for not so locals).

This Saturday 20th October 2007 we will be having our kick off party for the 2007 pier to pier race to be held in November so come and join us at wahoos http://www.swfloridakiteboarding.com/party.htm at 6.00 pm and have some fun
On Saturday we will

. Talk about the race
. Go over the race course
. Answer any questions you might have
. Collect any kitty pot donation and sponsorship Donations
. Register if you have not already

Guys
If you live too far away to come on Saturday don’t worry we will give you time on the day of the race to get organized.
For the past few weeks we have been going up and down the east and west coast of Florida promoting the race and we got some feed back from some kiters
We understand that people have to work for a living and we want all kiters who want to participate in the race to be able to do so and that is why we are going to do the race on a weekend that way we can all relax and have a good time after all (the more competition the better the race) so please come along on Saturday and get to know us and have some fun.

See you Saturday

Let us know if you see any N or NW wind coming up. I'm sure that 3-4 of us from Adventure Sports will come over for a pre-run.

For the East Coasters that are not used to riding right foot forward off the wind... good luck. Last year I found that the 27 mile down wind race at Tampa (that I did 2 times) was far more difficult than the 60 Jupiter to Ft. Lauderdale race. I would strongly suggest getting some practice going low and right foot forward.

Additionally if you are regular and thinking of riding a directional board for the first time, don't do it. Unless you can ride toe-side switch you will be bumming. I found this out at Tampa also.

It is great to see more West Florida events coming along. See you there.

The notice of race says that you may have the event after Nov. 4th. Does this mean that the race might be Sunday the 4th, or is the first possible start on Saturday the 10th? Thanks.

Hey Enrique,

Could you specify the exact address of the race start?
Some of us not-so-locals might do a pre-run on a weekday by ourselves - need to know where to start...

[The finish is 7th Ave, Naples, I guess, right?].

On their site it says that you need to be there 1 hr before the race to sign up.
They pretty much have all of the rules nicely labeled on their site.

Check it out.

I saw that.

Misuse of terms on my part. By sign up I meant register/sign waiver/pay.
Not sign in before the race to let race officials know I had arrived so they could do a head count.
